Among the dozens...and dozens....and dozens...of reasons why I’ve never set foot in Mexico and never will is because *every* policeman,*every* lawyer,*every* judge,*every* prison guard,*every* government official and *every* politician in the country is utterly corrupt.
I don’t care how cold it gets north of the Rio Grande, I’ll never set foot in that hell-hole called Mexico.
That really bears repeating. Why any American or Canadian would even vacation in such 3rd world sh*tholes as Mexico or Cuba is beyond me. Canadians flock to Cuba during the winter, for what? To be imprisoned in some "resort" compound, which you can't leave until it's "plane time" again? Mexico? My feet will never feel it.
I am not arguing with you, but Mexican society is not chaotically corrupt. There is a system there which has worked, albeit imperfectly, for almost five hundred years now. What we see as corruption, the Mexican is liely to see as tradition, based on a complex network of relationships we do not particularly honor as they do.
We have some friends who annually go to the same Mexican beach for vacation. When safety was brought up they stated it was completely safe & wonderful. They didn’t go last year and probably will not go again. I guess they finally realized that just because they had not been killed in previous years didn’t mean it wasn’t going to happen.
Some relatives went to a “safe tourist” area with some of their friends who had family there. They won’t be going again either.
Normalcy bias. Telling some people a place is not safe to go to doesn’t always register.
