RE: I have a lesbian cousin who self-identifies as a conservative. She espouses every liberal cause but has relabeled them as conservative
The words “conservative” and “liberal” are getting to be so elastic that it confuses the hell out of people.
Prime Minister of the UK David Cameron is supposed to be a conservative... yet, he supports gay marriage.
The party in Australia that wants to cut taxes, do away with carbon taxes, are wary about Muslim immigrants and are for traditional marriage is the LIBERAL PARTY.
The recently deceased talk radio legend, Bob Grant is a conservative radio talk show host, but he’s Pro-Choice and supported Charlie Crist over Marco Rubio.
it’s coming to a point where we really have to look at the issues on a case by case basis before we can label anyone “conservative” or “liberal”.
“...look at the issues on a case by case basis before we can label anyone conservative...”

We can’t agree on the questions, much less the answers.
No kidding. The word “conservative” hardly seems have much meaning anymore. It boggles my mind that there are so-called conservative pundits who vocally argue not just pro-amnesty, pro-dope, and pro-fag marriage views, but maintain all three at once!
If those things are now part of “conservatism,” then I guess I’m no longer a conservative!
Oh you just broke my heart. I didn’t know the great Bob Grant had passed. I was just telling someone about him he was a radio legend my whole life.
Your examples are very good. It's true. "Conservative" and "liberal" are very, very fuzzy concepts. All of us on FR who argue over this point or the other know that. After all, what is a conservative?
At some point, perhaps, very soon, we'll come up with better ones. Big-government and small-government are, perhaps, more accurate, though we'll have to come up with zippier and shorter labels than those.
