Does any FReeper have a link or other news concerning a follow-up investigation on the Dec. 15 chase and police shooting video from KTLA helicopter in this thread?

His name was Brian Newt Beaird. http://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/local/police-pursuit-friday-13-huntington-park-235835961.html
He had schizophrenia, and was unarmed. http://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/local/Man-Killed-After-Police-Pursuit-in-Corvette-Had-Schizophrenia-Friend-236145831.html
That’s all I have right now.
no he wasn’t unarmed, he had a 3200 pound sledge hammer and as you can see, he used it.
It doesn’t appear to be a good kill on the video but the dude used a lethal weapon on innocent citizens.
Watch the video. He was out of the car and unarmed when the cops shot him. He sure pissed them off before that though.
Thank you very much. This seems to me to have been buried, never to be solved, and sets a precedent for more police administered executions.
I agree he was in the wrong, and won’t argue against “He deserved it “. Our justice system uses police, then courts with judges and juries, then prisons and executioners. NOT JUST POLICE.
It will be a sad state of affairs when we give police the authority to execute perpetrators at the scene of a crime because “they deserved it”. Or they pissed the police off when they didn’t obey the orders of the police.
The man was no longer armed, no longer a dangerous threat, and it was felonious that he was shot, and at that, to death.
I can’t believe any conservative, constitution loving, patriotic American would endorse police executing unarmed criminals because they had endangered the lives of others, and eventually because of...whatever? That is an extremely dangerous and unconstitutional policy.
When he was shot, he was unarmed. Had he been killed WHILE he was “armed” during the pursuit, too bad for him.
But that was not the case.
He had schizophrenia. He should have been locked up and given treatment. But apparently that’s not the way we do things these days. We judge them to be defective and therefor unworthy of the God given rights the rest of us are entitled to. When they’re bedridden, we starve and dehydrate them to death. When they have mental illness, we gun them down in the street. I’ve seen this play before, and it doesn’t end well.
I totally agree.
With Cop shootings, I like to replace the Cop with a Civilian and consider what might happen with the scenario then.
In this case its clearly first degree murder if you are Joe public.
Aggravated by the fact that these clowns were at some level motivated by Anger.
But the Guy was white and in an expensive car.I’m sure they won’t even get a slap on the hand.
Rodney King was doing the exact same thing while on PCP and God knows what all. Then HE attacked the Cops first before they gave his the ass kicking he deserved and look how those Cops were treated,
I don’t know if the information the police could obtain from reading his license plate revealed his mental illness. If his mental illness contributed to his erratic driving, maybe he should not have been driving. I hired a mentally ill man when I ran a shop in LA, and it was the best thing I could ever have done for him. I would not have wanted him to be locked up, but given treatment, like he was, was best. It was also best that we disabled his motorcycle (to paint it) and he was no longer motoring on the streets of LA.
Some mentally ill, though, need to be isolated from endangering themselves and the public, but now we’re back to the story of guys like Adam Lanza and such, and that the US has decided it is not important enough to have mental hospitals to hold these folk versus other priorities that we could debate ad nauseum. Mental illness in this country is a whole nother issue that I do not want to play down, but nuts or not, these cops murdered the fellow, and that’s wrong.
We’re on the same page Daniel.
I grew up in the desert, not the city, so things were a bit different there. In the nearest city, about 20,000 population, if you ran from the cops and they caught you, there was a good chance you were gonna get a beating. I’m not condoning that behavior either. If you wanted to fight the cops, like our late friend Rodney King,I pity the fool!
I don’t care what color you are, you don’t run from the cops, you don’t fight the cops. And I don’t care how much a cop is angered by the bad behavior of a citizen, they don’t have the authority to beat them up, or shoot them dead unless they are still posing a threat.
