Messages Link Christie's Aides To Bridge Lane Closures (Christie scandal thickens...)

A top aide to New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is linked through emails and text messages to a seemingly deliberate plan to create traffic gridlock in a town at the base of a major bridge after its mayor refused to endorse Christie for re-election.

"Time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee," Christie aide Bridget Anne Kelly wrote to David Wildstein, a top political appointee at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which runs the George Washington Bridge connecting New Jersey and New York City, one of the world's busiest spans.

Kelly wrote the email on Aug. 13, about a month before two of three local access lanes to the bridge were diverted, causing hour-long backups in Fort Lee during the first week of school. The message was among a series of emails and texts obtained by The Associated Press and other news outlets Wednesday that are the clearest sign yet that Christie aides were involved in the lane closures.

Christie, a star in the Republican Party who's considered a possible candidate for president in 2016, has denied that the lane closings were punitive and has said his staff was not involved. After the emails were made public Wednesday, he abruptly postponed a scheduled morning event.

It is very simple. Most of us are conservatives rather than republicans. Voting for a bad GoP candidate can indeed be worse than the alternative. Consider Cuba as an example... while Castro plunged the island into a communist dump, it was the corrupt administration before him that opened the gate to do it. Corrupt or incompetent republicans give strength to the other side.

The lesser of two evils is not enough. The GoP has a tough choice to make... do you want the Tea party to express their choices in the GoP primaries, or in the general election. When the GoPE plays games to control the primaries... they lose the base for the elections.

In the primary elections, we have a choice. That’s when the fighting should take place. Make the case for your favorite conservative, be clear, concise, and don’t fall into the media traps. Candidates on our side always get trapped by the media. Some on our side who will read an AP story for example and take everything in the story as factual. Some will hear a soundbite taken totally out of context and claim that a candidate who has never said anything of the sort claim that he or she is for opening the borders. At that point, hysteria sets in and everyone tries to prove that they really don’t want *THAT* kind of conservative, only a pure one in every sense of the word. At that point, the election’s lost. The liberals and the media, acting as one, have successfully divided and spoiled the conservatives. It’s always their plan and sadly, it’s been working.

“I am NOT okay with what Barack Hussein Obama has done to this country.”

Neither am I.

I rarely post anything of any importance regarding politics but I do read most of the political threads on FR.

Your post struck home with me.

I voted against Obama in both elections. I realized we did not have the perfect candidate but neither of them frightened me the way Obama did,so I didn’t vote FOR the Republican,I voted AGAINST the Democrat.

In a perfect world we would have had an ideal candidate but the world is far from perfect.Maybe we’ll have a better representative next time.

When you speak for everyone, I think that’s dangerous.

If most of you are conservatives as you claim, why pray tell could “you” not get behind a candidate in the primary election process of 2012? You and the others did not do that. Oh, I know the claim that the eeeeevil Karl Rove really did fix the election to have Mitt Romney win. I’ve heard that before. Since Romney was not “your” candidate, of course, the hissy fits, temper tantrums and circular firing squads certainly did ensue. Chaos reigned and conservatives were told they couldn’t be a “REAL” conservative if they dared to vote for Romney. You do realize that the election was between Obama and Romney, correct?

AND I’ve heard on this site that MANY of “you” claim you would much rather have Obama as president instead of Romney. Really.

I guess I really do love my country a lot. I don’t like seeing what’s happened to this great country in the past 6 years. My God, we have legalized dope.........and the vulgarities are just out of control. The Steelers aren’t in the NFL Playoffs, the country is falling apart.

Who did you write in for 2000? 2004? 2008? 2012?

Voted R each of those times and look where we are? By the way, take your snark elsewhere. I've been around here a lot longer than you have and couldn't give less of a damn what you think.

You voted for George W. Bush TWICE, John McCain AND Mitt Romney. Surprising, since so many who have been “around here” so long like you wouldn’t have been seen pulling that lever for Romney, let alone John McCain!!!!

Wow.

I’m also very impressed that you have been “around here” longer than me. Posting for years on the internet is supposed to impress me? Sorry, it doesn’t.

Also, I am not asking you to “care” what I think. I want the democrats out of the White House, PERIOD. They’ve caused massive destruction to my country. I want a republican in the Oval Office. PERIOD.

So, you spew all this pro-rhino hysterics and then you complain that DU is vulgar? Have you read what you posted?

You’re not going to get a lot of traction for Christie or any other rhino. We’re tired of the GOPe and the left trying to pick our candidates for us and a lot of people will stay home if we get another McCain, Romney or Bush for that matter.

Christie deserves ridicule, he’s earned it.

If this is true, then not only does it lower Christie to Obama-like depths of petty vindictiveness, but it’s just plain stupid. Now, everyone in Fort Lee is going to think of him as nothing but “that SOB who made me sit in traffic for hours” and vote against him. And plenty of other people will realize that if he stuck it to the people in Fort Lee, he could stick it to them, too . . . and vote against him.

You’ll stay home. Gotcha.

Temper tantrums, hysteria, chaos, circular firing squad.

But......you still can’t figure out WHO you want to nominate. That was the problem here on the premiere conservative website in 2008 and 2012. When a candidate was chosen, then the screaming began. “I’m not voting for him!” That’s what I heard here, and it’s starting again.

I find it hilarious that you assume I’m backing Christie. Don’t you remember what your mother taught you about assuming anything? I’m simply tired of so called conservatives trashing anyone (including me) when someone dares to disagree with their “all or nothing pure conservative candidate” refrain.

So, you stay home. You can ride the internet directly to the bottom, which is exactly where it’s headed.

Ambulances and firetrucks were also caught up in Christie’s gridlock payback plan.

Alright! Mission Accomplished.

The liberal media has successfully eliminated Christie to the delight of the conservatives who want to stay home in 2014.

So, who’s next?

I voted for Romney. What did that get me? I voted for McCain, what did that get me?

How many times does the vote for the GoPe moderate have to fail before we run a different play?

I voted for Cruz, and I’m happy with the results. He is big now, but during the primaries... there was a big division. Based on your posts here, I suspect you would have been on the wrong side of that fight too.

“I want a republican in the Oval Office. PERIOD.”

I’ve been sold out enough times that I don’t value the party label. If there was a pro-life, pro-religion, pro-traditional marriage, low taxes, small government democrat... I would consider voting for them. Problem is, the “party of tolerance” won’t tolerate any of that.

And now the republican party is fighting against that group too. Are you loyal to the party or the issues? Pragmatic choices to win elections is one thing. Elevating those choices to be the actual goal rather than the principled issues... is not ok. This isn’t a sports game where a win is a win... If the republican candidate doesn’t further our cause, and poisons the well for a future conservative candidate to make headway... then they were indeed worse than nothing.

You betcha.

I want a REPUBLICAN in the Oval Office.

You can continue with your pipe dream of a third party. Presidential elections are between a republican and a democrat. You can hope for the democrat.

Fight your battles during the primaries.

But, I really do suspect that the MAJORITY of you attacking me for wanting a REPUBLICAN to win, as opposed to a democrat, don’t even bother.............

So, you continue to work for the democrat.

I will continue to work to elect the REPUBLICAN nominee.

“lol” based on your posts here.

Why would someone SO “principled” against people like Romney EVER vote for him? What a hypocrite.

Why would someone SO “principled” against people like McCain EVER vote for him? Once again, what a hypocrite.

The republican candidate lost the last two presidential elections. The republican candidate is on track to lose the next presidential election as well. why? because of those of you who just can’t vote for that person.

But, wait...........you DID vote for Romney and McCain. Why? Why would you vote SO against your principles?

What a hypocrite. That’s what I see here. Lots of “I really voted for Romney” and then claiming to be totally against the guy. Why would you do that?

Or.........is it just to argue.

God help us and I really do mean that, IF those of you on the attack claiming they just will *NOT* vote for the unpure conservative........really mean that. Get your Hillary bumper stickers ready, huh?
