A top aide to New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is linked through emails and text messages to a seemingly deliberate plan to create traffic gridlock in a town at the base of a major bridge after its mayor refused to endorse Christie for re-election.
"Time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee," Christie aide Bridget Anne Kelly wrote to David Wildstein, a top political appointee at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which runs the George Washington Bridge connecting New Jersey and New York City, one of the world's busiest spans.
Kelly wrote the email on Aug. 13, about a month before two of three local access lanes to the bridge were diverted, causing hour-long backups in Fort Lee during the first week of school. The message was among a series of emails and texts obtained by The Associated Press and other news outlets Wednesday that are the clearest sign yet that Christie aides were involved in the lane closures.
Christie, a star in the Republican Party who's considered a possible candidate for president in 2016, has denied that the lane closings were punitive and has said his staff was not involved. After the emails were made public Wednesday, he abruptly postponed a scheduled morning event.

Thank you for making my case perfectly.

I'm sorry, but when is questioning a candidate's credentials, positions or legislation "trashing"? Who gets to define what constitutes "trashing"? Those in agreement with or opposed to the candidate?
There were a lot of folks on this board accusing anyone who challenged or questioned a candidate of this very thing or worse. I will not take any one person's word or even the candidate's word at face value, especially if I am not familiar with them.
I am currently of the opinion that Christie, like Romney, could do more harm than good to the entire conservative movement, because the media has painted/identified them as "conservatives" and any true conservative will tell you and be able to prove different. I reject the premise that I should accept the media's identification of "conservative" candidates just because the candidate says they are.
Why should anyone be obliged to sit still and accept what the media or an anonymous poster on FR have to say about a candidate?
I am almost convinced this is an attempt to stifle debate through ad hominem.
Politicians are supposed to be public servants. They work for us. They hold positions of public trust. And you want to ignore all of that, ignore a politican playing games with people's lives as petty political revenge, simply because he's on our side? What utter nonsense.
Fat boi is a liberal lummox.
Would you like to lead the way and put down your gun first?
In/from my years of public service I would guess at least 80% of elected officials are bought and paid for and practically all public employees with their unions do not worry too much about dedicated public service. Just weigh the money being paid/given to these public servants compared to what non public employees earn to get the gist of so called public service.
Christie is no conservative. Neither is Bush. I voted for the last two RINOs that lost to this loser in the Whitehouse. I won’t get fooled again.
Hate on? We don't use the term haters, that's a liberal term liberals use. What is your DU id?
If FR is so bad, maybe it's time for you to move on and take your hysterics with you.
The Dems (which includes GOP leaders) will ignore these little transgressions. They have a mission, and he's their man.
For example, between Romney and Palin, I'd go for Palin, instantly. But between Romney and Obama, I'd reluctantly support Romney. I wouldn't bash him and stay home.
Yep, the lesser of two evils is still evil. But a lot less evil, and easier to clean up afterwards.
Christie attended more than 100 Bruce Springstein concerts. Christie cried when Springstein called him a year or so ago. Does this “man” belong in any position or power, responsibility or leadership? I think he belongs on a therapist’s couch for a long, long time.
Not a liberal, like Christie. Pound sand if you don’t like it.

Don't mention it.
I'm happy to share. If it's Hillary v. Christie I will write in Ted Cruz. I will not vote for Christie.
Cheers.
None of this compares to Hillary Clinton voting against the surge, and thereby disregarding the lives of US troops in the field and stopping the violence in Iraq, all for admitted political purposes. She admitted it.
Once again, GOP-e supports a big, fat looooooooooser!
PING!
Christie will jump ship to the Dems by 2016.
He has no tie to the GOP.
Christie is for Christie.
Only in their own minds he wouldn't(couldn't) get elected dog catcher in the south.
I’m voting for the republican candidate in 2014. You, on the other hand are now claiming that I post on that vulgar website DU where they use the F word with reckless abandon. Really, that’s the best you can do?
So, I’m being told by you to “move on”, isn’t that a progressive term? What’s your posting ID on moveon.org? Surely you have one since you’re using that term in your post attacking me.
From the amount of direct mail I’m receiving lately, I’m not alone in my sentiments here. It’s sad, too. Do I think that the republican will win the White House in 2014? Not a chance on earth. Why? Because half of the country is as dumb as a box of rocks, a quarter of the country is texting all of the time, not paying attention to anything and the remaining citizens are too busy attacking each other because they DARE to realize that a Presidential election is between two people, one democrat one republican. Period.
If Jim Robinson wishes me to “move on” as you claim I must, then he will remove my account, it’s that simple.
If not, then I will CONTINUE to point out to many of you that the ridiculous claim of “NOT VOTING” if X isn’t nominated is the reason we have this mess right now.
Please share.
Who did you write in for 2000? 2004? 2008? 2012?
