Remember everyone - both parties realize one thing. If they are here — THEY COUNT. For House seats and fed money to states - THEY COUNT. (Remember the 3/5 compromise). Sometimes they count more when they can’t vote.
If a person is here. They count. Whether they are citizens or not. No matter the age. No matter what-— they count
The one pub I can think of who turned this to his own advantage was Tom Delay in Texas. He put a bunch of non voting illegals in pub districts. One reason the Dems hated him more than anyone. Gave power to republicans and they took over Texas
If illegals didn’t count — how many House seats would CA have?
And there’s really a major issue with counting illegals for divvying up federal benefits.
1) They shouldn’t have access to federal benefits, and
2) If they don’t have access to federal benefits, their local regions shouldn’t get more resources because of their headcount.
Take away the redistribution incentive and local districts may be less supportive of illegals and more supportive of immigration enforcement. That’s what really should be going on.
