I’m in flat Florida where my animals’ water buckets iced over the past two nights. High in the 40’s yesterday but it should be back in the 80’s by the end of the week.
Really?
I must have been too young to remember.
Last year's activity was very low. If ocean temps are low, I foresee another year of relatively few hurricanes.
Jacksonville Florida reported 25 degrees yesterday morning.
Its been above freezing the last couple of days here in Wasilla Alaska.
Are you sure about this being "unprecedented"? Because in Kentucky (much warmer winters than Michigan) in the 70s and 80s, on more than a few occasions we had temperatures in the -10 to -20 range. I especially remember one day, while at Ft. Knox for Basic and AIT, we had a wind chill of -67. For obvious reasons, we didn't go outside that day, expect to double time to the chow hall and back. Even here in Idaho, where I've lived for the last several years, we've had unofficial temperatures of -20 overnight.
Methinks all this talk about "unprecedented" and "record-setting" cold temperatures is nothing but eco-nut claptrap meant to shift the terms of the debate to gloBULL cooling rather than gloBULL warming. Besides, we've had at least one Ice Age and a Little Ice Age in Earth's history...I'm sure it's been even colder than this at some point.

Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
I keep an eye during these cold spells. It was -35 at our shack in Northern Minnesota a couple weeks ago. Still off the mark from the -48 it was when I went up there in the late 70’s. (And before we insulated it!)
It wasn’t that long ago that all 50 states had measurable snow.
I know two basketball players, who if one stood on top of the other's shoulders would be over 13,00 feet!

Yes, it was really cold in Jacksonville yesterday. But this isn't unusual. I've lived here the past 10 years and every winter there's a few days where it's really cold in Jacksonville.
