Last time I checked, the government (federal and state) was prohibited from making legal determinations with regard to the practice of religion. That would tend to include whether something is or is not a religion. You and I are free to opine one way or the other all day long; that’s because our opinions do not carry the weight of law.

You and I are free to opine one way or the other all day long; thats because our opinions do not carry the weight of law.Under that logic the American Indian tribes such as the Pawnee's have a right to their religious freedoms which were well established before we got here and restart their human and animal sacrifices.
Yes, government does have rights to make legal determinations up to a point to stop religions that abuse or kill others it just can not go any farther than that.
