Updated 1:48 PM, 2:20 PM | Rep. Jim Gerlach, R-Pa., announced Monday he will not seek re-election in 2014, marking yet another moderate House Republican to leave Congress.

“Nearing the end of my sixth term in the House and following 12 years of public service in the Pennsylvania House and Senate, it is simply time for me to move on to new challenges and to spend more time with my wife and family,” Gerlach said in a statement to PoliticsPA.com, which first reported the news.

Anyone else here n Pa. 6th? There are some names mentioned for possible (R) candidates. No fan of Gerlach..but don't want this to fall into some Dem Harpy's hands, either.

A load of Repubs are retiring, which may hurt us in the midterms.

What is the difference between a “moderate” Republican and a Democrat these days? Makes no difference to me.

“us” is not Republicans, I thought “us” was conservatives

They plan to press amnesty and all this other crap going on and go to war against the TEA party.

They deserve to lose and lose big

I do not want the dems to win net seats. Moderates in red states and districts should be primaried, but Gerlach’s seat could go blue.

The more "moderate" Republicans deciding to opt out, the more I like it.

This isn't a game and I'm not a cheerleader

I really do not care any more which of the two leftist parties win elections. I don’t see any real difference.

Just two wings of the same party as far as I can tell.

Why won’t Peter King retire. He needs to prepare for his presidential bid.

That is up to the folks that live in that district to decide.

LOL. We will find out how serious King Rino is about being President
when he resigns from congress.

P.S. I would not hold my breath waiting on him to retire from congress.

Yep. And, they could do worse...probably will, with the Dem’s poised to sweep in and take the district, apparently.

He was one of the ones who dissed Ted Cruz and “the shutdown”, so Gerlach needed to leave.

The progressive Republican establishment in PA will get someone else to run and maybe fake them up as a “Tea Party” conservative.

In my view, a moderate Republican is code word for a Democrat in a Republican district. The key is to nominate a Republican who can convince his district that he represents their views, but who votes as a conservative. The Democrats do this all the time, why can’t we?

I’m very familiar with the 6th. It’s the district next to mine. Much of it is Democrat and they are very organized and ready to take over. This is one that will be very difficult to retain. Chalk one up for the libs...

Interesting. I live in this district, love politics and I am a better extemporaneous speaker than most of the politicians one sees. Give me a script and it is lights out....Obama might be better, but there wouldn't be many. I also will be eligible to collect a pension this year after working 30 years in the steel industry ( finance/commercial). I was thinking of doing something different. Maybe I will run for this spot.

If you think extemporaneous speech calls for a script then maybe you should pause and reconsider whether you are ready for prime time. But hey, if you want to, knock yourself out.

Do it. The Book “winning Local and State Elections” might be worth purchasing. The section on targeting your audience will show you how to read the prior polling results and target likely voters. where they live. You might be surprised. I did pubie first and then libertarian. i learned alot. You can get for free or minimal dollars all of the voting information by precinct. not who voted for who but the detailed voting demographics of your voting area. The book “Mises made easy” is glossary of the terms used in his book “Human action” it can come in handy to get a handle on words. If you can read “Human Action”

I’m reading SamScranton, either. Rohrer’s name mentioned. If he’d run, I’ll be all in. Terrific guy. Heard Curt Schroeder mentioned as well. The 6th includes a good bit of Berks county as well, minus Reading. I think Republicans can hold this one..if a decent Conservative candidate runs.. I also hear Bob Casey has a brother in the district...that they might try and tap. Yuk. But this isn’t Scranton, either.
