Members of the Antarctic expedition trapped in the regions icy tundra have pledged to plant "thousands" of trees to "cover" the carbon footprint resulting from their rescue. The Russian ship Akademik Shokalskiy became lodged in ice on Christmas Eve during a research study on global warming.
Debate has heated up, no pun intended, over exactly how many trees will need to be planted to offset the rescue effort's "damage."
The expedition had pledged to plant about 800 kauri trees in Northland to cover its carbon footprint. Environmentalists believe planting trees helps to offset the impact of burning fuels such as diesel.

Heck, the extra fossil fuels burned in the current “Polar Vortex” will more than offset it as well. . .
Of course, if I was evil, I’d get the name and address of each and every one of the “rescue-ees” and send ‘em photos of the land we clear-cut in reaction. . . (evil grin)

I can think of at least a million places where trees grow better than the Antarctic.
Sounds to me that they should be doing something to put more carbon in the air.... Need to do something about global cooling.

I’ll help them out by planting a couple plum trees this spring. But I will be cutting down about 40 dying ash trees too. So they better plant 38 extra because of me. I guess I wasn’t a big help after all. oh well...

Hey - let them knock themselves out. They wanna plant trees to offset whatever the hell, let ‘em. Let them feel all good and warm and fuzzy about themselves; maybe this will lead them to stop being idiotic scientists for all of us.
