n a first of its kind ruling in New York, a Manhattan judge has given a couple who're just friends the green light to become legal co-parents to an adopted girl. The pals identified, only as LEL and KAL, met in 2000 and have been close friends since, according to court papers.

Indeed INDEED and may that day come soon!
I guess I was still in shock while reading...and just missed that entirely
Our culture is circling the drain and we are starting to hear the flush very loudly
Too many alphabet soup noodles in this article. There’s got to be a LGBTQFUBAR angle to this.
Indeed. Or rather, “the government is now your family” per the Communist Goals of 1963.
In Obama world they will all smoke pot and be gay.
The people get the government they deserve.
Indeed. It reminds me of when ancient Israel wanted a king and they got Saul. We know how well that turned out.
What’s so bad about this arrangement? Countless couples “live together” and bring up perectly normal kids, just as lots of traditionaly married couples create pure hell for children.
If the “friends” are committed to doing the best job of raising the child, I see no harm. We’d be better off if every adoption could say as much.
I was orphaned just before I turned ten, and became a ward of the state until I reached adulthood (even during my early Naval career).
I would have given almost anything to be adopted. If it was into a traditional family, wonderful. But I would not have objected to being adopted by a single person. Or a couple of friends.
I had a loving pair of parents until I was nine. That was as stable as could be. Until one day it wasn’t. Nothing is guaranteed.
You have to think about the problems of the situation they are in, compared to what they could have - not just think of some ideal that is, in practice, unobtainable - if it wasn’t, there wouldn’t be kids looking for homes.
I was lucky - my situation wasn’t too bad, and eventually was pretty good. But even so... I would have loved a family. A real one. Imperfect - all families are imperfect in some way or another.
“is it a heterosexual pair..of just friends? I didnt read that far I guess,”
From what I gather it is a man and woman who are friends.
And, I don’t have a problem with this... The child would be well served to have parents who are “friends”.
It seems to me that the “friends” part is what is missing in most relationships.
The kid doesn’t and shouldn’t have any knowledge of the two parents bonking each other. If he/she has a mom and a dad that both love it and get along, I would think this woud be ideal for the child.
If hey were adopting a dog, this would be OK. But a child...?
When will a judge decree that penpals can adopt too?
???

Article states KAL wanted a baby, and LEL offered to be her sperm donor.
She couldnt get pregnant, so they decided to adopt a child together.

That means one couple are fags and the other are lesbians.
Soon, “couples” like this will be married. After all, if it isn’t about family or child-rearing, and if homosexuals can marry, why not allow two people who have brotherly/sisterly/??? love for each other to marry? Who said romantic love has to be involved?
Next up, animal marriages, pencil and pen set marriages (Don’t they look great together!), peanut butter and jelly marriages (I don’t know what TOOK them so long!).
Then, at last, the homosexual lobby’s job will be done. Marriage will mean nothing.
Yeah, my mum used to be a social worker who worked in a children’s care home in the ‘70s, based on the stories I’ve heard about vulnerable children having to share living space with often profoundly disturbed kids who liked to ape the behaviour of their own parents, not to mention growing up being brought up largely by staff who by definition do not have time to give any individual child the care and attention they need to grow up well-adjusted, I’d say that pretty much any parent that isn’t violent or a paedophile is better than growing up in an institution.
Better people that hang out together platonically than people who build a relationship around sticking things where they don’t belong. Better to have the State out of the family business all together than to have the State sodomizing the family.
“Id say that pretty much any parent that isnt violent or a paedophile is better than growing up in an institution.”
I thought many of those institutions were replaced by the foster system, which has its share of abuses. People would collect money for housing kids, and in some cases spend it on themselves instead.
