thats a good idea, but meds have a shelf life. Do you do a rotation of some kind?

Indeed I do. But most meds have a shelf life of much longer than the manufacturers recommendations.

Keep them in the fridge. The shelf life can be extended by an amazing amount if you keep it barely above freezing.
I do not recommend freezing most meds (especially not the liquid ones) since some will turn to powder as trace amounts of moisture in them will eventually destroy them, if not simply disintegrating some particular ones with certain compounds necessary for their proper useage.
Fridge also works quite well for battery shelf life, with the same caveats about not freezing them.

Keep your meds in a dark area away from UV rays. Cool temperatures will keep most meds for 10 or more years.

"but meds have a shelf life."If stored properly(dry place - slightly below room temperature), most medications can last WELL past the "expiration date".
