Marlene Hoeber is feisty, tattooed, transgender, a self-described feminist, a queer activist - and a crack shot with her favorite "toys," guns of just about every kind.
One thing she's not - and proud of it - is a member of the National Rifle Association.
"We make ourselves a special place where we don't have to hear about the 'Kenyan Muslim socialist' in the White House," said Hoeber, a biotech equipment mechanic who says she's politically "somewhere around Emma Goldman," the turn-of-the-20th century anarchist.
Instead, Hoeber - whose array of firearms includes an M1 carbine rifle from World War II and a custom-made .44-caliber pistol - and other left-leaning gun lovers have their own organization: the Liberal Gun Club.
A good thing, says Hoeber, since she would never consider joining any club that has "Grover Norquist on the board," as the NRA does.

NRA Created To Protect Free Slaves (March 5, 2013)
http://www.westernjournalism.com/nra-created-to-protect-free-slaves/
Western Journalism is certainly not a Leftie Site.
There is also a video made by black NRA members saying the same thing. Pretty good testimony.
I have been an NRA member for a few decades, and have yet to receive unsolicited products with a bill. Besides, if you do receive unsolicited products, you are under no obligation to either pay for them or return them.
I do not believe this is true. I have been an NRA member for almost 20 years and have signed up for every NRA based e-mail alert and offer they have presented me with. However, I have always signed up using a unique e-mail alias that I created for use only with the NRA. I have never received a single e-mail message to that address from any organization other than the NRA. If the NRA had sold my e-mail address, I would expect to have received spam from other sources. Since I haven't, I conclude that the people who whine about the NRA giving their e-mail address away are completely mistaken and defaming the NRA unjustly.
;-)
Excellent, thanx!
Although I am a social conservative and NRA member who bitterly detests Harry Reid and almost everything he stands for, I have to agree that the NRA is a single issue organization and needs to stay true to that. I remind my shooting buddies that not a single gun control law was passed during those cold years from 2009 to 2011 when the Democrats had filibusterer proof majorities in all three branches of the federal government. Even though there were likely many reasons for this, the wisdom of the NRA's non-partisan approach clearly was primarily responsible.
There is an “opt out” when you sign up in very small print at the bottom of the page. I missed it, my fault.
Nevertheless, I do not feel that a paying member should need to “opt out”.
NRA even specifies (again in very small print ) in their privacy policy that they will indeed give your info to organizations they they think will interest you(read: support the NRA or pay for the info).
FR has not given our info out, neither have any of the other forums or websites that I have joined that do not charge for membership.
NRA does with “implied” permission.
It’s a crappy, underhanded way to raise money off of people who are already paying.
I will continue to let everyone know about it.
In the second to last picture it shows her holding an M-1 carbine - not an M-1 Garand.
Guess youre easily duped. Anyone w/ a functioning brain knows liberals love guns. Sure, they trot out a few Useful Idiots for public consumption but the truth is completely the opposite. Liberals are liars first and foremost, from beginning to end. Their problem w/ guns is that you can have them. They would have no problem at all murdering their enemies w/ guns or enforcing their agenda at the end of a rifle. If they ever succeed in out lawing guns genocide wont be far behind. It can happen here.
> Guess youre easily duped. Anyone w/ a functioning brain knows liberals love guns
There’s this thing called hyperbole and sarcasm that don’t translate too well on the Internet without the /s sign...: )
Isn’t a liberal gun club in SF called a “bathhouse”?
Excellent, I'm stealing that and adding it to my gay joke repertoire.
That's funny, I don't recall ever "opting out" of anything. All of the e-mail messages I have received to the unique address I gave to the NRA have all been clearly labeled as being from the NRA.
I missed it, my fault. Nevertheless, I do not feel that a paying member should need to opt out.
So you claim to take responsibility but still blame the NRA for letting you screw up? The internet must be a brutal place for someone with your level of computer competency. It sounds like you couldn't possibly have any idea where your spam originates from.
NRA even specifies (again in very small print ) in their privacy policy that they will indeed give your info to organizations they they think will interest you(read: support the NRA or pay for the info).
Again, all of the e-mail messages I have received to the unique e-mail address I gave to the NRA have all been clearly labeled as being from the NRA.
FR has not given our info out, neither have any of the other forums or websites that I have joined that do not charge for membership.
Your fallacious non-sequitur argument aside, did you also read in the "very small print" that the NRA lets you opt out retroactively with just one click?
NRA does with implied permission.
You just admitted above to giving them explicit permission!
Its a crappy, underhanded way to raise money off of people who are already paying.
From the whiny tone of what you have written here, I highly doubt you have given any money to the NRA in a very long time if ever.
I will continue to let everyone know about it.
Whiners are going to whine. You sound like an anti-gun troll with an axe to grind against the NRA. In my experience, gun-rights supporters who are unhappy with the NRA's practices or statements tend to tout their support for other pro-gun organizations such as Gun Owners of America or the Second Amendment Foundation. You haven't done that. The fact that you have done nothing but whine about the NRA when 1) you admit that it was your own fault and 2) you admit to reading the "very small print" where it tells you how to easily fix your own mistake tells everyone on this thread exactly what you really are.
Google in ‘’Origin of the NRA’’.
Big difference between the two. Never fired the M-1 carbine. Fired an M-1 Garand once. Freakin’ thing is a cannon! Thank goodness I was a wearing a shooting jacket with some padding. Even at that I still can feel the kick.
You’re absolutely right on a couple of points, missing the point on others.
A retroactive opt out is really too late since my email address is already been given away.
Yes, I missed it in the fine print.
I am definitely NOT an anti gun anything. I own a couple of firearms and love them.
If being upset that an organization that I PAY DUES TO gives away my information makes me a whiner, then I guess I am.
Meanwhile, I will continue to state that while the NRA does some great things for citizens that want to keep their 2nd Amendment rights, I don’t appreciate the way I was treated. Therefore, I will no longer be a member. My membership recently expired, so all of this is only a year old.
You can continue with your membership if you want to, I never asked you to drop it.
I am dropping this conversation with you.
