I remember the Uhaul truck I rented. it was documented I drove it 12 miles. I put 4 gallons of gas in the thing.

They billed my card for 251 dollars.

I went in with the receipt from the pay at the pump. “no sir! the truck was empty when we got here this morning”

um, ya.. ok boys.. lets use some logic here. Guy drives the truck 12 miles, puts 4 gallons of fuel in it (I am SURE it got better than 3 MPG) and you think he drove the fuel out of it?

Manager finely got around to viewing the tape from the night I dropped it off. 2 kids, a hose and 10 gas cans..

Go figure.

I turned my car in at the same location where I rented it. Turns out they had driven it across town and was trying to charge me $25 for the gas. The trip is about 8 miles. I showed them a receipt where I bought gas a half mile from where I turned it in. They finally credited my card.

I think businesses, especially utility companies, overcharge people all the time. Back in the old days the phone companies would charge you a buck a month for call holding. And old man told me “Say they do that to 2,000,000 people and only half of them object. They’re bringing in an extra $1,000,000 a month.” And those numbers are probably too low.
