Daily Mail (London) ^ | 12/30/13 | James Nye

My parents got hitched right after they both turned 23, after my dad graduated from college and started his teaching career (my mom was already a bank teller). I (their lone child) was born 11 months later.

It was fairly common back in the day... but that being said, IF i had a daughter, I dont think i would want that for her. 15 seems like barely past being a child.

My great-great grandmother got married at 15, my great-grandmother got married at 15, my grandmother got married at 15, my mother married at 18. All of them stayed married to the same man all their lives. Just saying. Back in the day, marrying at a young age was no big deal.

Unlike our government and the U.K.’s. They want the young teens to be having sex outside marriage.

My wife was 16 and I 18 when we got married(no she wasn’t pregnant lol). We’re on our 20th year. Our oldest daughter is 16, and I couldn’t imagine her getting married. She can’t even do laundry without asking for help.

I saw the video clip and wonder what was the full context of what he was discussing. Something about if you wait until 20 they'll be picking your pocket.

No need to pull the thread and the thread I linked isn’t mine. I linked it
only for others that may wish to read the many comments thereon.

Here is a link to the multitude of Robertson threads if anyone is interested.

I believe its If you get them when they are 15 or 16 they will pick your ducks, if you wait til they are 20 they will pick your pockets.

I saw the clip and want to know what evidence they have for saying that’s Phil Robertson in the video and not just a southern sounding white guy with a beard? Its not like the left has not been known to lie before...

I'm not definitely convinced one way or another.

As a man, I can see advantages to both older and younger.

How do the ladies think about this subject?

If we guys are the only ones talkin', it's not very meaningful, imo ... soft core porn, in a sense.

Search is a hit or miss on FR at best. I find it best to use only one word when
searching, example Robertson. If you use more than one word then you need to
change the search function to match any word in the search string and that will help.

Take care.

Age of consent with parental consent in Louisiana is 16. Phil also indicated that they discussed this with her parents prior to marrying. The fact that they’ve been married for 50 years is testament that they made the right decision, even though it hasn’t always been easy for them.

So what? Besides the obvious fact that for the bulk of human history the marrying age for women was in the mid-teens (a 20 plus year old was considered past her prime) the people who wrote this and consider it scandalous probably think buggering adolescent boys is fine and dandy.

This saying is something Phil has said in his testimony, on the show, and in his book. It is a joke. Here is the excerpt from his book where he says the same thing:

"Miss Kay was the perfect woman for me. I was sixteen and she was fifteen when we were married. Nowadays some people might frown on people getting married that young, but I knew that if you married a woman when she was fifteen, she would pluck your ducks. If you waited until she was twenty, she would only pick your pockets. Now, that's a joke, and a lot of people seem to laugh at it, but there is a certain amount of truth in it. If you find a nice, pretty country girl who can cook and carries her Bible, now, there's a woman."
