At least 70 journalists were killed on the job around the world in 2013, including 29 who died covering the civil war in Syria and 10 slain in Iraq, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists.

The dead in Syria included a number of citizen journalists working to document combat in their home cities, broadcasters who worked with media outlets affiliated with either the government or the opposition, and a handful of correspondents for the foreign press, including an Al-Jazeera reporter, Mohamed al-Mesalma, who was shot by a sniper.

Six journalists died in Egypt. Half of those reporters were killed while reporting an Aug. 14 crackdown by Egyptian security forces on demonstrators protesting the ouster of President Mohamed Morsi.

The Committee to Protect Journalists sounds like some NSA Orwellian hit squad out to insure the "well-being" of the self-anointed protectors of the Republic.

It seems secretly installed programs by the NSA on journalists' computers were designed to explode when detecting the words "Obama" and "fudgepacker" in the same sentence.

It must be news because they think so.

U.S. newsreaders sit behind their desks and point to stats like this to “prove” how brave they are.

I (sorry) tend to agree. These lying scumbags continue to fail to report the tens of thousands of Christians killed by Muslims.

Well, I had struggled on ways to come up with expressing similar sentiments to the one you just posted but couldn’t come up with anything I felt comfortable with, but I think you managed to do a very good job in perfect straddling of the line.

How many of them died covering the story of how many Christians are slaughtered in 2013?
It is sad when anyone is killed; but, you get my point.

I’m sure most were local subcontract personnel. The lard assed liberal journalists in this country these days are seldom known to risk their pink skin for any reason.

Journalists like to think of themselves as some kind of truth-seeking crusading heroes and— if they get killed— as martyrs. Ever notice how many heroes in television and movies are reporters or writers? Who do you think writes that slop?

Your illustration perfectly captures the sense in which these perfidious fifth column betrayers ply their trade. The sense of pomposity, cynicism, and duplicity manifested by the MSM goes far beyond what we can ever imagine.

Since most journalism today is done behind an anchor desk or a computer screen, I find this statistic hard to believe.

Journalists take on the scum of the earth in many countries and without being armed with anything beyond a pen. We should all give a prayer of thanks for the real journalists ... many are heroes... Prayers for the families and loved ones.
