Local deputies detain wrong guy; man wants apology

SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. -- A recent college graduate is waiting to hear the words “I’m sorry” from two Spokane County Sheriff's deputies. Conner Guerrero said the deputies were sneaking around his house, forced him on his knees on his lawn, and handcuffed him in front of his neighbors.

But deputies had the wrong house and the wrong guy. "Just trying to enjoy my evening.  All the sudden, I see a flashlight shining through my doors…” said Guerrero.  “I'm thinking this could be a dangerous situation for me.” Guerrero said he assumed the two men outside his house were burglars.“I come over to my door and I slap it to say hey someone is in this house and they're not going to let you come in here.”

He said he then got the scare of his life. "Right as soon as I opened this door, and it's dark outside - it's very dark and all I can see is a pistol.”

As Conner ran for cover, he heard a man yell ‘Sheriff's Office’ and asking him to come out.  Guerrero said he immediately complied. "I'm wondering why the hell is a gun being pointed at me right now!”

Conner said the deputies accused him of being an intruder on his own home.“They directed me to take a knee, well both knees,” he said.  "The gun [was] still drawn. The deputies then reportedly took his ID, proving Guerrero lived there.

But he claimed when the mistake was realized, he was the one apologizing while the deputy said something that gave him chills.

“’You're lucky I didn't [expletive] shoot you,"

He soon learned the deputies were responding to a report of a suspicious vehicle but went to the wrong house.

Years ago I had the same exact experience - right down to the “’You’re lucky I didn’t [expletive] shoot you,” from the pigs.

I heard something late at night and saw shadows moving in my back yard. I grabbed a gun and went to investigate. When I got to the corner of my house I saw several forms moving in the shadows and retreated towards my door. They must have seen me at the same time because they immediately followed. I retreated inside and barred the door.

The faceless (and largely featureless) shapes came up on the porch and pounded on the door and wall demanding entrance. I had all the lights out inside (it was 01:00) and turned on the porch light which revealed that they were cops. Or at least wearing uniforms. I shouted through the door for them to get off my property. They insisted that I come out. The one cop shouted that either I come out or they would break down the door. I replied that there were children in the house and that I was armed. I repeated my insistence that they leave and they repeated that I surrender.

Finally I suggested that they call in a sergeant or someone with at least a little common sense. Amazingly they did. When he showed up I explained the situation to him (through the still closed door of course) my situation and my desire to be left alone. Even more amazingly he agreed that this was something blown out of proportion and told his crew to stand down.

He said that there was a report of prowlers and that one of his guys “thought he saw” someone going up my driveway. He did scold me for not being more cooperative and I responded, “Consider it from my perspective”. He nodded (which was all the consideration I was going to get).

I moved out of Seattle shortly after that.

All he wants is an apology from the deputies who said he’s “lucky” they didn’t shoot him. Sadly, police rarely apologize, as that is construed as admission of guilt.

Oh the cops probably had a beer summit at the end of their shift where they laughed them selves silly at how they made the guy piss his pants.

That's quite a story. What a way to “protect and serve” huh?
What's gotten into these knuckleheads?
- They barely understand normal human reaction to their out of control intimidation tactics. And we're supposed to be grateful when they don't mistakenly shoot us now.

We’re all just “lucky” to be the king’s subjects, I guess.

According to the sheriff, they went to the wrong address. But then they justified the bungled address because of tire tracks, and a “dark house”.

First off, I don’t think all cops are bad. I do however believe the standards to be a cop have been lowered to the point that a lot of idiots do become cops. That being said, it will not surprise me to start reading stories of cops being killed in their own homes. There seems to be no recourse these days when idiots wearing badges do idiotic things.

That was 22 years ago. I have no doubt that I would have been mistreated and humiliated had I given in to them. The phenomenon of JBT’s isn’t new but they’ve definitely gotten more aggressive.

Speaking of the shiney badge polishers, they seem to be diminishing in numbers around here.

Just yesterday there was a thread about a no-knock busting into a guy’s house in the middle of the night and it getting a deputy killed. Of course, now the guy defending his home from what he thought were burglars is in jail for the murder. These ninja/nazi cops going around shooting dogs and children and manhandling innocent people must stop.

Exactly. They’ve got to always put the responsibility on the homeowner somehow, to avoid facing up to their mistakes.

“’You’re lucky I didn’t [expletive] shoot you,”

When they ‘make a mistake’ they are guilty of murder. Jail. For life.

That’s a very rare occurrence. They usually get off by blaming the homeowners for their actions. Police unions and their corrupt lawyers will go to the matt every time.
