Well Wally_bert,
If you go to Everglades City they have these airboat rides that take the same little canals and go the same routes and theyy pack a dozen or so fools in and take you out to see a gator or three.
Incredible fishing and just plain fun and stay away from anything labeled park service.
Joe,
The airboat rides in the Everglades City are limited to mangrove and some salt marsh habitats. The varied areas used by the different airboat operators once offered opportunities to see as much of the varied Everglades habitats as one wanted. One could even make arangements to take a private airboat into areas inaccesable to the large ride boats.
Socializing the Everglades destgroyed all that.
Now, there is no way to access most of the Central Plains area, arguable the nicest part of the entire Everglades.
Thanks to the faulty premise of “wilderness” even National Park scientists can’t take an airboat anywhere except on designated trails in the Park. trails reserved for ParkMan’s Armed & Rangerous or their bureau-scientists.
