Police have charged and beaten protesters with violence

His Excellency Archbishop Anil Couto, Archbishop of Delhi , was today arrested by the Delhi Police, along with other bishops of other faiths. This was confirmed Chinnayyan Father Joseph, deputy general secretary and spokesman of the Catholic Bishops Conference of India.
The archbishop was involved, along with other leaders and lay faithful of the Christian churches, in a peaceful march to protest for the rights of Dalits .
The demonstrators arrived in the area of Jantar Mantar and headed towards the Parliament of India. According to information Fides, the police charged and beat protesters with violence, arresting a number.
Among those arrested is Anil Couto Archbishop, Christian Protestant bishops Alwan Masih, Roger Gaikwad and Vijayesh Lal, leader of the "Evangelical Fellowship of India" and the Catholic John Dayal, Secretary General of the "All India Christian Council" .
According Chinnayyan Father, the bishops asked that a delegation of the protesters is received by the government and the Parliament , which is in session of assembly.
Christian leaders "will be released this afternoon" , said the spokesman. However, he has filed a complaint against the Delhi police for assaulting and beating Catholic priests and nuns.
The march called for the repeal of Presidential Decree 1950 which legalizes discrimination denying equal rights to Christians and Muslims of Dalit origin. discrimination has been extended to 1956 Sikhs and Buddhists in 1982 .
Religious minorities in India regarded this as "totally unconstitutional", "but governments that have followed have turned a deaf ear," said Bishop Anil Couto. Also in the past there were peaceful protests, but today the police "acted brutally against unarmed protesters" , say the Christians.
In a note sent to Fides, the "Global Council of Indian Christians (GCIC)" says he is "shocked and dismayed at provocatively arrest of bishops and other leaders. " The Council recalls another preceding the November 2, 1997, some bishops were arrested for defending Dalits.
Some political leaders like Jayalalitha , Prime Minister of Tamil Nadu, has strongly supported the request of Christians and Muslims by stating that "the question can not tolerate further delay" and "must be brought before Parliament" Dalits.

India has one of the largest affirmative action programs in the world, and the Dalits are the biggest benefactors of this.
That the Dalits have an affirmative action to benefit them does not mean the Christians should simply forget about them. In any case, I would rather believe a Catholic bishop on location than the Indian government or anyone else about their true status.
There are catholic priests and bishops lobbying for illegal alien amnesty, and others caught in acts of paedophilia - worldwide, like a systemic disease, so they are not beyond reproach.
Pedophilia in a small percentage of priests has nothing to do with it. That bishops lobby for the dignity of the immigrants — and the Dalits, — is their proper role as the Princes of the Church. It only delegitimizes the government of that pagan nation that they dared arrest them.
This is a small example of the coming persecution of Christ’s Church; it is coming here as well. We are entering the age of new martyrs.
Small or not, shielding paedophiles, moving them around to different assignments, settling cases out of court with monetary incentives, aiding illegal aliens and lobbying for their amnesty, do not count as honorable activity.
The real problem is homosexuality among the priests; the bishops, with a few exceptions (Weakland comes to mind), probably gay themselves, did the job properly. There is nothing wrong in re-assigning offenders to positions not involving ministry to minors, there is nothing wrong with settling lawsuits, and certainly nothing wrong in advocating amnesty for non-violent criminals.

The real problem is denial within the catholic church’s organisation, and at times, implicit shielding of sexual predators.
The problem is not just down here; it’s worldwide.
Firs,t the topic is the arrest of a bishop for legitimate political activity. If you want to instead discuss something else, why don’t you open up your own thread and post any nonsense you want on it?
It is proper for any organization to avoid damage to its image. The Catholic Church did that and I am proud of it. The problem is precisely homosexuality, — and admission of homosexuals to priesthood is and always has been contrary to the canons.
The scandals were blown out of proportion by the left-wing press (there is no other kind) who hate the Holy Church and want to slander her. No is Australia’s term. Ignore your press and keep the faith, for the victory will be ours.
