With the deadline to sign up for Obamacare having come and gone, many Americans have decided to opt out of President Obamas signature health care reform law, choosing instead to pay the $95 penalty for sidestepping the individual mandate.
For many Americans opting out of Obamacare is the best decision they can make, but it's important that they do it the right wayjust refusing to buy health insurance and not having another way to pay for catastrophic medical expenses is a mistake, Sean Parnell, author of the newly-released The Self-Pay Patient, told Breitbart News. People who want to opt out should be looking at alternatives to conventional health insurance, such as joining a health care sharing ministry or purchasing a fixed benefits policy."
Parnell also strongly advises Americans against opting out and simply paying the list price for medical visits and prescription drugs without shopping around, or by relying solely on the local hospital emergency room for routine medical care.
This approach leaves people who opt out vulnerable to sky-high medical expenses at inflated list or chargemaster rates, and can result in an inability to obtain needed care because of cost, Parnell writes on his blog, selfpaypatient.com.
Instead, Parnell recommends the following eight options for those who have opted out of ObamaCare:
1. Join a health care sharing ministry, which are voluntary, charitable membership organizations that share medical expenses among the membership.
Parnell states that Samaritan Ministries, Christian Healthcare Ministries, and Christian Care Ministry are open to practicing Christians, while Liberty HealthShare is open to those who are committed to religious liberty.
Healthcare sharing ministries operate entirely outside of ObamaCares regulations, and typically offer benefits for about half the cost of similar health insurance, says Parnell. Members are also exempt from having to pay the tax for being uninsured.(continued)

...what's more insane is having that same government telling others how to beat the laws...acorn, center for America progress, planned parenthood, etc etc..<
Is anyone going to either cancel existing insurance or refuse to buy a policy simply because of the ACA? I somewhat understand young single people playing illness roulette and opting not to buy insurance and paying the fine, but older people and families deciding to ‘stick it to the man’ and wade into life without health insurance.....nuts.
What about patriotic seniors, should they dump their govt medical coverage on principle?
The only way the IRS can collect the Obamacare “TAX” (not penalty) is to hold it out of your tax refund. If you make sure you aren’t due a refund, there is no way for them to collect it!
Yes, it's nuts. But, isn't that exactly what Obama proposed to the millions of people who lost their health insurance due to Obamacare? He might as well have said, "I caused you to lose the health insurance plan that you liked, so I'm giving you permission to go without insurance next year and I won't make you pay the penalty (TAX)"!
Your question was not directed towards me, but permit me to point out that the very first sentence of the article implies (through omission) that one can choose to "opt out" and will then have to pay only $95.
Sometimes, a half-truth is worse (i.e., can do more harm) than a straight-out lie.

...At the moment...
The unpaid "Obamacare taxes" are cumulative and subject to interest and penalty assessments.
When total unpaid amounts reaches great enough levels you can expect "reforms" to the tax laws that will enable to IRS to collect those funds by seizure - and retroactively for past tax years.
Quite possibly those "reforms" will be enacted by Presidential decree at a press conference.
The elites running the present Government will attempt to do whatever is convenient for themselves and will not be restrained by Law or Constitution.
Plan accordingly.

“The author doesnt have a medical degree.”
He’s talking about insurance and the godawful deathcare. Why would he need a medical degree? I would think a certificate in voodoo and witch doctoring would be more qualifying.
“It is insane that we should have to play games with our government in order to purchase what used to be readily available.”
Yes. It is. Welcome to kakistocracy. Courtesy of the gop and ‘rat uniparty.

I doubt anyone is voluntarily giving up a decent and affordable insurance policy. However, thanks to deathcare, millions are getting dropped through no fault or action of their own.
As for seniors and their govt medical coverage, it’s difficult to find doctors who will take it. They’re increasing being put in the cash and carry market whether they like it or not.
It depends on income. If low information voters are heavily subsidized in the exchanges, they are likely to say this is a good deal and wonder what all the commotion is about.
Somebody that had their private insurance cancelled and have had their premium rates and deductibles more than double are probably fit to be tied. You never know how someone will react when backed into a corner..
