The botched ObamaCare rollout that has given Republicans a hammer going into the 2014 election cycle is now splitting Democrats in deep-blue Maryland, as the problems become political fodder for next year's gubernatorial race.
Despite Maryland Democratic Gov. Martin OMalley being among the first to embrace the Affordable Care Act and create an online exchange, the state-run site has had a disastrous start, like the federal exchange. This has left gubernatorial frontrunner and Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown, who helped lead the local ObamaCare launch, taking hits from fellow Democrats.
Its almost like a Saturday Night Live skit, primary challenger and Attorney General Doug Gansler told reporters last week. Its comical that its not working. Its tragic for folks who dont have access to health care.
While the health care overhaul's launch has caused consternation for Democrats across the country, Maryland is the rare battlefield where the issue is creeping into a major party primary.
Gansler -- whose campaign had its own rocky start trails Brown by double digits, according to the most recent poll, and has tried to pin the website problems on the lieutenant governor, Marylands second in command.
Brown and others were so boastful about Maryland leading the country [but] here we are behind such states as Nevada and Kentucky, let alone California and states like that, Gansler recently told Politico.
Fewer than 4,000 Marylanders enrolled in the first two months, well short of the goal of 25,500. Just 7,435 have signed up through the first three weeks of December, though OMalley says the site problems essentially have been fixed.
Brown, as co-chairman of the Maryland Health Care Reform Coordinating Council, was the two-term governors point man on improving health care across the state.

Maryland "Freak State" PING!
While entertaining, it doesnt matter,
The majority of our fellow Maryland voters are brainless gutless sheep who dont care how often O Malley and Dems rape (raise taxes) them, as long as there’s some grass supplied by the taxpayers for them to eat.
OMG.......Schadenfreude overload is not covered under Obamacare :-(
I assume the two competing premises on the Dem side will be Obamacare vs Single Payer.
Amen..it's sickening.
When all is said and done, the same rotten bunch will still be entrenched in their dimocRAT seats voting for the same tax and spend agenda.
This is nothing more than a smokescreen.
Yep - it’s like choosing between death from a bullet - or a sword...
I’m surprised that 7,000 low education voters in Maryland can read (didn’t say accurately). Baltimore schools are horrible as are those in PG County and parts of Montgomery County.
Throwing many at ignoramuses isn’t going to fix the problem. Also, look at the marxist policies of O’Malley, Miller and Brown. If it weren’t for the federal government’s employment of so many people in the state, it would be way down the list of Third World countries to visit to see how marxism fails.
Gone are the great shipbuilding and repair facilities of Curtis Bay, a lot of the seafood industry of the Eastern Shore, steel mills/working at Bethlehem plants, some of the chemical facilities, and smaller manufacturing businesses.
Coal mining is next on Obie’s list so say goodby to jobs in the one Republican district in the state. Oil refineries - nah. Oil drilling/natural gas fracking - not likely to any degree. Chevy building car engines again - NOT!
Unless you get the Democrat voters off of the welfare addiction plantation and into the ‘free enterprise” mode, Baltimore will remain a cesspool of crime, unemployment and ignorance, with other smaller cities to follow.
It used to be such a beautiful state where people had jobs, homes, and pride. Today, it is a poster child for Marxism and Incompetence. Thanks Comrade O’Malley and company - YES YOU DID!
Former Baltimorean who never was a Baltimoron.
How about a little sympathy for taxpayers who see their hard-earned dollars confiscated, then spent on junk like this website!
