Animal shelters all over the country tend to stay at full capacity. Most are running on a limited budget, and rely heavily on donations. One visit to a shelter, and you can't help but want to help. Some things shelters need are obvious, some are not. Helping may not be as hard as you think.....................

That was my first thought...Animals!

Dogs have OWNERS, cats have STAFF.”

Is that the shelter off Pine?
What is the “official excuse” for refusing to adopt out dogs to a known reliable owner at your local ASPCA?
Cats like heights; it allows them to explore their territory from a safe vantage point. They feel “in control” and “safe” when they are in high places.
“Id donate feral cats to the shelters....”
There used to be a big nursery-builder supply place, that took cats including ferals.
They suggested 50 lb. bags of cat food, but didn’t insist.
*laugh* I am seriously considering adding that to The List of "Why Cats are Better than Women" that I posted a few weeks back. *grin*
Perhaps I should post it again, along with the list of rebuttals to the "Why dogs are better than men" list that a female FReeper posted in responce. *snicker*
Go for it. :-)
Right, then, give us a moment to spin up the backup drive and do a quick search... -good list, actually! Drives the sheilas to annoyance when they attempt to refute it. *snicker*
Right, then: added to the list. Or did you wish it posted (the newly-revised list) as well?
Thanks, for your kind understanding and care.
I have a problem with ALL “animal protection” groups.
When we walk our dog(a Norby), we often see a solid white domestic(?) rabbit. We are in an area that often is visited by wild dogs/coyotes/hawks.
I am presuming a uncaring pet owner turned this animal loose.
I have called animal services, wild life agencies and none will come out to capture this domesticated rabbit. They go as far as to tell me I am not allowed to capture the rabbit. It is a crime(?).
You and I know that the probable outcome is this animal will die a viscous death, as prey..
So please don’t ask me to give those types to go on.
My money and time goes to Veterinarians!
If you mean the commercials by the Humane Society, I agree, they are horrible. I don’t see the need to show the images of suffering animals. We all know they are there.
When you donate, please give to a local rescue group or local animal group that fosters animals and then finds homes for them. Unfortunately, the US Humane Society is affiliated with PETA and other radical animal rights groups. Some of these groups kill the animals entrusted to them.

I could not get an explanation from my ASPCA. Then I found a second and third person who had the same situation. I actually think a lot of it has to do with the boredom and frustration of the staff in filling out the papers, doing all the boring office work, when they would rather gossip. I was often told a dog was on “hold” for another person, only to find that the person either never collected the dog or returned it. And I was never contacted even though my name was on a waiting list. I simply gave up and turned to a small adoption service. Got my dog within a week.
