Actually, his efforts in helping the allied forces win World War II makes him the closest thing on Earth to an angel, whatever he did with other men.

Doing what you are supposed to do - such as using one's skills to defend one's country when it is subject to an imminent invasion - does not make you a saint.

Many other men, who did not possess his rarified skills, volunteered for extremely hazardous duty and died on the front sacrificing their lives.

Because he possessed his skills, he was given his own bungalow in the safest area of Britain and was given all the resources he needed to pursue his research. He had one of the most plum assignments of any adult male in Britain, and he did a really excellent job.
