military should not be treated differently then any other federal employee or elected federal position.

As soon as those federal employees or elected officials put themselves in harms way, are separated from their families for a year or more, and work jobs which won’t allow them to go home at night I’d agree with treating the military the same.
I spent a LOT of time living in tents in Saudi Arabia and using communal showers and latrines. My last combat tour was in Afghanistan in 2007. And you know, I did not meet “any other federal employee or elected federal position” people there...in spite of sharing the crapper with 5,000 of my closest friends when at PSAB!
