Merry Christmas to you and yours Sir and all the rest of us as well. This medium is a strange place to tell things isn’t it? I suppose it is like a testimony?

The Misses and I are home alone this year. Our Captain is “away” and his Misses is with her folks. It is the first time in just over three decades like this for for us. He has managed to beat a path home somehow in the last three deployments. Once just in the nick of time. Reminded me of the time I boarded a plan in Nigeria on Christmas Eve. It was the best trip home for Christmas I ever made although Dad was not there for the first time in more than five decades. By that measure my time is short.

We are blessed to reach out to friends who would have been alone themselves this Christmas Day and we are looking forward to fellowship with them. It’ll be good to have the Preacher in the house.

I’ve been out blowing leaves and thinking very hard of the reason for the season. Only by His sacrifice will any of us have a tomorrow or hope of a happy eternity. Dad and I sat on a cliff in the Pecos Wilderness once with nothing but silence other than the trickle of a waterfall way down in the valley. We said that knowing we could consciously spend eternity without those we love is motivation enough to strive to live our lives by His teachings.

I am guilty of many things. Foremost is being old too soon and too late smart.

My fervent prayer is for God to give us mercy and bless us every one.
