I know what you mean. TC wormed his way into the role by becoming Executive Producer. I figured it was not worth seeing because JR is a big tall guy and TC is...well...not. But my wife borrowed the Blu-Ray from our county library recently and it was better than expected. The Tom Cruise element is downplayed and the quiet intellect of JR is forefront. So, we didn't pay to see JR either. Except for our county taxes.

I had to look up what “Jack Reacher” was about, but you’re right. Cruise does not project a Clark Gable/Lee Marvin/Steve McQueen type of masculinity.
