The Dixie Chicks were targets of well-organized boycotts, as punishment for speaking their minds. It wasn't folks from the Democratic Underground who organized those boycotts.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not judging the correctness of any one boycott. I suppose some are truly deserved. What I am saying is that the left has no monopoly on the process.

That’s not suppressing free speech. The government had nothing to do with it. Country music fans in general tend to be conservative, and were upset at what they said.

Actually it was more about speaking their minds on foreign soil yet they had never said such here at home at any of their concerts until after they got caught...

I think the term is "hypocrisy"...
