Californians scrambling to make Monday deadline to sign up for health insurance

ynn Engelman still has no idea whether her doctors in Contra Costa County will be on her new health care plan -- and neither, she says, do her doctors.

Capitola resident Kathryn Johnson has already paid the first month's bill for her new policy through the state's new health insurance exchange, but she just received a letter telling her she hasn't signed up for a plan.

And in San Leandro, Linda Entrikin is one of 900,000 Californians suffering from whiplash after the Obama administration's surprise announcement Thursday that people whose insurance plans have been canceled can replace them with cheap, bare-bones plans after all.

For tens of thousands of Californians still without health insurance, Monday's deadline to enroll under the president's new health law feels like an exercise of hurry up and wait. And across the country, government health exchanges are bracing for an avalanche of applications from people who must sign up by end of day Monday if they want coverage to begin Jan. 1.

People in the Bay Area are scrambling to sign up too, and others are anxiously awaiting answers about the policies they already applied for.

Yet many worry they may not get what they want in time from Covered California, the state's health care exchange, or from their insurance company.

"The system is still fraught with many problems," said Johnson, 57, a self-employed psychiatric nurse practitioner.

For MONTHS, the Murk has been running articles extolling the virtues of CommieCare and how MILLIONS have signed up. Now, one day before the deadline, they are finally running an article declaring it to be a disaster. Well, not exactly those words, but for the first time they are exposing the problems with this tyrannical take-over of our health.

Scramble all you want. IMO, with no insurer back end pay system, insurers don’t get paid. Therefore no policies will be issued.

Somehow, the Health Fairy will appear and provide for all. Just like the Great Pumpkin.

Obama will decree that people can contact the insurers directly and pay retroactively. In the meantime, the health providers will be expected to front the costs. After all, why shouldn’t they (/S), they’re part of “the system” and they’ll eventually get paid.

Liberals believe in “magical thinking” like Steve Jobs. But wait, magical thinking couldn’t save Steve Jobs...

Unless Zero makes them an offer they can't refuse.

I never understood why they set the deadline so short
anyway, sign up an entire nation in a matter of months?

This is how liberal thinking goes, the people are
considered a monolithic block, they set a deadline
and all will comply...

This isn’t the soviet union........yet.

Any physician that would fall for Obama’s promise to pay for all the leeches signing up for Medicaid would be a physician not smart enough to practice decent medicine.

Wait until they run afoul with the IRS. Not getting a refund will be the least of their worries. Between the forfeiture sales and prison sentences, California is going to get really ugly real soon.
