The Russian president is positioning himself as the world's leading defender of traditional values.
Vladimir Putin is calling on the conservatives of the world to unitebehind him.
The Kremlin leader's full-throated defense of Russia's "traditional values" and his derision of the West's "genderless and infertile" liberalism in his annual state-of-the-nation address last week was just the latest example of Putin attempting to place himself at the vanguard of a new "Conservative International."

Not quite as simple as in the Cold War. At least back then, America was a morally upright country that stood for freedom and democracy. Not the degenerate, faggoty cultural sewer that it has now become. It makes for a different dynamic.
Hah! I always had you pegged as a war-monger. ;^)
I possess an insatiable bloodlust.
“It makes for a different dynamic.”
Only if you don’t see the United States being on the losing side as a bad thing anymore now that we’re so degenerated.
That’s becoming an increasing possibility that I definately consider. Under Obama, and with all his marxist ilk in charge of the institutions, and a poisonous culture that celebrates depravity and evil, America is looking to have zero moral authority on just about anything. And a country that has embraced evil to the extent it has (fag marriage being a telling symbol), its preservation no longer seems of paramount importance.
Putin looks out for the best interests of Russia, the country he is leading.
That is more than what we can say about our president who is NOT looking out for the best interests of the US.
Does this help make it clear why some of us have a net positive view of him?
“persecuting them such as gays. “
He is NOT persecuting gays. You really need to get some correct information, instead of the MSM propaganda.
The only thing he did, he made it illegal for push gay propaganda on those 18 years or younger. Do you have a problem with that?
He did NOT ban gay lifestyle.
he’s responsible for the deaths of a lot of innocent people’
Prove it, with examples and evidence. What we know is that he’s responsible for keeping the US from going to war in Syria on behalf of jihadist rebels. So he’s responsible for protecting a lot of innocent people,
Your mention of Iran suggests your real problem is the Putin is also trying to keep us from starting a war against that country. Bet you loved the Iraq war !
Thanks. Your candor’s appreciated.
I’ve been watching your act, and I don’t think proof exists that you would accept.
Apparently no proof that you can provide. Not surprised you can’t come up with any.
None you would accept. You got me too, Sherlock.
I don’t think many of the younger Soviet elites like Putin really believed in Marxism in the end, any more than the ChiComs believe in it today. It was (and is for the ChiComs) an excuse to keep power. IMHO Putin is a ruthless Russian nationalist. When that meant spouting Marxism, that was fine. Now it means spouting Orthodoxy, and that’s fine. If he thinks Russia’s interests coincide with ours, he’ll help us. Most of the time he doesn’t. He generally sees us as an adversary, but I doubt he’s an Marxist ideologue intent on enslaving us, or believes he could.
Now that Russia has theoretical rights to scads of oil, that’s probably keeping Putin’s grandiose dreams busy enough not to want to go off on another Georgia.
And hey, at least Orthodoxy is a BIT more humane than Marxism wouldn’t you think??
Actually it’s a valid and living Christian church. Would that the USA should be as fortunate.
I wouldn’t want a state sponsored church, not matter how humane. But clearly there’s a lot more individual freedom in Russia now, as long as you don’t challenge Putie. This is a guy who isn’t above dosing inconvenient journalists with thorium.
I’m sure one of Vlad’s biggest worries is Russia’s negative birth rate. Since the Orthodox church is against birth control, that has to be a reason to promote the Church.
Well, I don’t suggest a state denomination either, though a general Christianity would do a lot of good. State denominations end up not being good either for the state or for the denomination.
I agree. I don’t think Putin is at all a conservative icon. This is just the left trying to pin conservatives with Putin.
I believe conservatives find it very sad when a person such as Putin, comes off more credible and moral, and smarter, than the current US leadership of America under Obama the Liar.
Ask yourself...as a PERSON, whom do you respect more, Putin or Obama? The response would surprise many.
