That’s the way things were in my neighborhood. Plus, kids looked out for each other and the younger ones. While we would be ruthless with each other, it was different between us kids and adults. It was understood that it was “us” and “them.” We knew who the “creepy” adults were (and they were there) and us kids stayed away from them. We knew at a young age who was creepy because our older brothers and friends told us, and so we later told our younger brothers and their friends.
