Ted Cruz: 'Duck Dynasty' suspension affront to freedom of religion, speech
Breitbart.com ^ | 12/19/2013 | Tony Lee

On Thursday, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) said those who believe in freedom of speech and religious freedom should be "dismayed" over the indefinite suspension of Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson for what were deemed "anti-gay" remarks. Cruz said, "the reason that so many Americans love Duck Dynasty is because it represents the America usually ignored or mocked by liberal elites: a family that loves and cares for each other, believes in God, and speaks openly about their faith." "If you believe in free speech or religious liberty, you should be deeply dismayed over the treatment of Phil Robertson," Cruz wrote on his Facebook page. "Phil expressed his personal views and his own religious faith; for that, he was suspended from his job. In a free society, anyone is free to disagree with him--but the mainstream media should not behave as the thought police censoring the views with which they disagree." "If you believe in free speech or religious liberty, you should be deeply dismayed over the treatment of Phil Robertson," Cruz wrote on his Facebook page. "Phil expressed his personal views and his own religious faith; for that, he was suspended from his job. In a free society, anyone is free to disagree with him--but the mainstream media should not behave as the thought police censoring the views with which they disagree." Cruz also said that "PC enforcers often forget" that "tolerance is a two-way street. Here's what Phil himself had to say about accepting and loving everybody": I myself am a product of the 60s; I centered my life around sex, drugs and rock and roll until I hit rock bottom and accepted Jesus as Savior.

So, what's next for Phil Robertson?

Common on Ted, this is not a constitutional issue.

The First Amendment doesn’t mean you can say anything you want and your employer has to accept/ignore it.

The Bill of Rights was about limiting government, not individuals and companies.

I greatly support Phil Robinson and I take joy in the backlash A&E has received from their idiotic decision. But that does not make it a constitutional issue. Ted should know better.

I understand that A&E set this interview up with GQ. This was a concerted effort to “ambush” Phil Robertson, knowing in advance what his answer to the interviewer’s question would be. A&E has had problems with Phil and his adherence to his faith from the beginning when they tried to edit his prayers at the end of each episode. I believe their game plan all along was to get rid of this “problem”.

Bring back Phil Robertson!!

In this, or another show, or something better.

This needs to stop. America needs its own, real networks, and an end to the left’s lockstep over what we see, hear and talk about.

America first!

A&E is part of a company. They can suspend anyone for anything. This is business.
There is so much fiction involved in this whole “reality show” concept that it is difficult to tell if this is a publicity gimmick or not.
The whole Robertson clan is welcome to say anything they want. They just have to decide whether they sold their soul for money or not. It appears Phil did not but who knows what will happen.

Speaking of our own networks, ABC’s world news with diane sawyer is a fraudulent insult to the American people. There is nothing about world news on it it’s a bunch of rehashed dribble of the national and local news. WE KNOW NOTHING ABOUT WHATS GOING ON IN THE WORLD they want us UNINFORMED. do yourselves a favor and watch the BBC news and you will know what they refuse to tell us about the world. They want us like mushrooms in the dark and feeding us sh##

It is far worse then just ABC.

Our entire media is a brain-crippling big monolithic, slop.

Sorry but we need a real alternative.

Rush step up. You’ve been hugely successful on radio for a very very long time.

Take over a television source.

We need to start fighting the left head-on.

So, what's next for Phil Robertson?

Hunting and fishing for anything that's edible? What a life!

Good article .... there was a FR thread on it:

http://www.ncregister.com/blog/pat-archbold/duck-dynasty-the-show-that-got-away-from-them

“I suspect that the folks at A&E, who always disliked the positive Christian message in the show of which Phil is the primary proponent, saw their chance. They want to keep the cash but dial down the Christianity. With Phil out, perhaps they could get the show they always wanted.”

So, A&E sets up the interview, then fires Robertson because of it.

Maybe the whole thing is just a stunt?

I'm not aware that congress passed any law abridging his freedom of speech or impeding his free exercise of religion. I also don't think he was petitioning his government nor attempting to peacefully assemble anywhere.

While I might have a problem with A&E, I don't think the government did anything wrong here....amazingly.

Common (sic) on Ted, this is not a constitutional issue.

He didn't say it was.

He said that the main stream media shouldn't act as the thought police, and he's right.

I'm sure Ted Cruz doesn't need a Constitutional primer from a random forum poster on the Internet.

Watched the show for the 1st time. One episode-that’s it. Not worth watching. As I see it the show makes fun of southern rednecks. When they end up with the WHOLE package their best laid plans go astray.

"Maybe the whole thing is just a stunt"

Not a stunt, just a continuation of the war on Christians that the leftist cabal has begun waging.

It was not a stunt. Anyone who believes that has not been keeping up on what has been going on. Far from being happy about the success of the Robertsons and their open display of their faith and belief in God, the Left was enraged. However, they, kept their rage well concealed. Like the Pharisees with Jesus, they [the Left] plotted 24/7 in ways to entrap them [the Robertsons]. At last the opportunity presented itself and Phil went like a lamb to the slaughter. The "interview" was not intended to gather information, but to entice Phil to make statements that could and would be taken used, out of context, for the destruction of his credibility.

This is a good example why the average Conservative should never consent to an interview with the Left. These people are trained in the art of asking questions designed to get the answer they want and any answer given, no matter how innocent, with the right amount of embellishment by them can be made to turn out the opposite that the respondent intended.

I agree but...

We have special interests in this country that are aligned with Big Government, and companies like A&E are coerced by these special interests into only promoting politically correct speech.

It's chilling and its roots extend out to government control.

Could be. There’s no better time to dump (sell) a huge selling product than when it’s at it’s peak.
The DD folks aren’t gonna continue without Phil and A&E will sell the show for MUCHO $$$ to some other network.

Simple television business.
