Forrest was the first to disband the Klan, long before its resurgence with the Progressives and Wilson, which is the "Klan" most folks think of if they ever give a moment's thought to "the Klan," at all.
Think of it. By the time "the Klan" had its day in the sun, marching down Pennsylvania Avenue in the early 20th century, the time for segregationists to hide under sheets was long past. By that time, fifty years after Reconstruction, racists had no need to hide. All they needed to do was join the Democrat Party.
Forrest marched with Sherman, for crying out loud, during the reunion parades.
This isn't smart enough to call it revisionism. It's just stupidity.
I think Forrest was dead at least a decade before the Klan reformed into it’s current incarnation.
It was 38 years between Forrest’s death and the Klan rebirth. PC history only has him distancing himself from it. No, he did indeed disband it.
