While the Obama administration boasts that the front end of HealthCare.gov is supposedly working better, the government reportedly still has to process over 50,000 paper applications it took in when the site was all but inoperable.
The stunning number was buried in a Washington Post report Friday.
Even though HealthCare.gov has been working better since the start of the month, there are still reasons why people may be having trouble getting coverage, Amy Goldstein reports for the Post. One significant reason is that the federal marketplace has accumulated a backlog of 50,000 to 60,000 paper applications as cracks have appeared in that low-tech method offered this fall as a backup plan, according to government officials.
While the Post reports that the government has hired an outside contractor Serco to help process the backlog, it remains unclear how long it might take.
No one knows how many of the consumers who sent in a paper application have chosen a health plan online now that the Web site is working better, reports Goldstein. As a result, health officials are trying to work through the entire backlog, but it is unclear how completely or how quickly they can address it. The effort was hindered when a computer portal on which the contractor relies went down for three days in the past week, according to an individual with knowledge of the system who spoke on the condition of anonymity about information that has not been made public.(continued)

Just imagine how big an improvement this is over the old system where you called them and paid and had insurance in a short time. lol
I gotta completely agree with you on that.
100%.
Maybe they will be like those missing ballots, they just keep turning up and up and up.... never know how many are out there!
Yeah, but this time it won’t just be ACORN and the DNC, it’ll be the Russian mob, MS-13 and Nigerian scammers finding them. I’m just restarting with a company that markets Identity Theft Protection along with Legal Services and these fools are minting millions of potential customers for us. I should be happy, but this is ridiculous.
Suffice to say is the government is lying that the website is working. That is why there is a paper backlog. The contractor can't process applications into the website. Said enough, need to shut up because insiders will be fired if found to be talking...
“Just imagine how big an improvement this is over the old system where you called them and paid and had insurance in a short time. lol”
But your saving $2,500 now.
or at least that is what they tell you while they process the paperwork slowly and send it to the insurance company to process again and catch all their errors...
so streamlined....
I’d love to be a fly on the wall January 1st at all those emergency rooms across the fruited plain when those thousands of injured and sick people show up and find out they have no insurance of any kind. Lowes, Home Depot and Ace need to stock-up on scaffolding, pitchforks, tar, feathers and torches.
Menards too
Those 50 to 60 thousand applications in backlog are because it is not a plan or a contract without a payment. Good luck collecting $500 per month to pay for their "free Obamacare plans"...................
Morons!
Save big money at Menards!
Would have happened with the other installed Controller too, not just the Undocumented Imposter.
They’ve done such a good jobs with the application. (sic) Imagine the job they will do processing the health care claims. 50% fraud like Medicare?
Naturally, his was the demonstration project, as they call it in government.
I can’t imagine anyone that could create such a mess except a community organizer who has never worked a day in his life, who then hired all of his otherwise unemployable organizing friends!
Cluster F*** is an understatement!
Only this is screwing with people’s lives who have played by the rules and carried health insurance for most of their lives only to find they are being punished to pay for healthcare coverage for people who don’t give a s***!
“...scaffolding, pitchforks, tar, feathers and torches.”
And maybe some HEMP.
The question to be answered is "By who"?, and for "what end purpose?"

The doctors in private practice will get caught in this mess on 2 Jan 2014.
I got to talk to a good doctor yesterday, he is a member of a good size medical speciality surgery group.
4 weeks ago I had discussed this coming tsunami with him, and he said that he didn’t think it would be that bad.
Yesterday, he said the docs in his group and similar groups had been warned about patients with good insurance in 2013, not realizing that they were not insured in 2014 showing up in offices to be seen and treated. Plus, those signing up via Obozocare, thinking that they had insurance, and of course those previously uninsured showing up and not really be insured. Then, how tempers could erupt and the doctors get blamed.
Then, he said that I had been correct re the Obozites holding up payment for an extra 60-90 days. Now, it takes Medicare and most insurance companies 60-90 days to pay and more time for the patients to pay what they owe after Medicare and/or the insurance companies paid the group. They had been warned by their CPA that patients seen under the Obozo care in Jan 2014, the group might not get paid until May/June. Then, add 6-8 weeks for the paying patients to pay.
I, then, suggested that they hire off duty cops or security guys to be in their waiting rooms. He said that might be a good suggestion, and that hospitals in the area will be having a show of cops in their ER waiting rooms.
