Saying ‘Merry Christmas’ Now Okay (in Texas)
KTRH ^ | 12/10/13 | Cliff Saunders

It’s a blow to political correctness. The ‘Merry Christmas’ law that was signed by Governor Rick Perry earlier this year has made national headlines, and is now gaining traction in other states.

“Oklahoma, New Jersey, Mississippi, Alabama, and Indiana have filed similar bills. That’s five states now that have filed some form of the ‘Merry Christmas’ Bill,” State Representative Dwayne Bohac, who sponsored Texas’ law, told KTRH.

And because it’s now law, Jonathan Saenz of Texas Values says your kids don't have to worry about being politically correct anymore.

...so now I require state permission to exercise my freedom of religion and speech?

I can only imagine the blistering commentary such laws would receive from the founding fathers. And I certainly can’t celebrate that anyone imagines the need for such laws, rather than correcting the mistakes that imply that such laws are needed.

Perhaps, but only in the context of your business relations; I agree it is unwise to needlessly offend one’s customers. But if you are an American born citizen and you use that style elsewhere in your life, then imagine there is a large group who would very much like to extinguish this historically established tradition of good will and unique form of Americanism. Would that offend you and, if so, would you politely resist? (Actually, one doesn’t have to “imagine”.)

While I will roll my eyes at active measures to say "Happy Holidays" rather than "Merry Christmas", I don't find it egregiously offensive, but rather just more pointless political correctness. Outside of business relations, I still simply respond in kind, whatever the greeting.

Perhaps a closer call. But imagine that I, along with many others I so persuade, construct dummies in the likeness of your favorite politician or religious leader which are regularly and visibly burned for public view on our private property. Would such an act not constitute a threat to that individual or an effort to “incite”?

Ever were I to grant that, it would be a specific threat to an individual, not the country as a whole. And in any case, I would still not advocate the intervention of the State, any more than I would want the State to prevent the burning of a Qu'ran because that might incite others.

The age ranges of the two groups and perhaps the ethnic backgrounds may be a factor. Is your business with a "younger" community of those more recently of the modern "zero-tolerance" school system?

No, all ages...leaning towards older people, if anything.

Do you operate in a community predominately influenced by non-American born individuals?

While there is a large community of Eastern European and Asian immigrants, they virtually never give a holiday greeting (probably because of their limited English).

Would you say general police powers cover morality, or are you in favor of gay unions and prostitution?

I don't think the State has any business being involved in marriage, period. People should be free to draw up civil contracts regardless of gender.

As for prostitution, I fully support legalization.

I don’t celebrate Christmas but here’s a great version of a classic Christmas song played to an electro-swing hiphop tune.

Kip, do you have any notion of how such loose, immoral thinking affects this nation? We have become a totalitarian state -- and the process started when people began to drift away from time honored morality. Gay unions is just the next step in a continuum of immoral horror aimed at removing this country from its founding and destroying our sacred freedom.

If we lose God's law, we lose God Himself. And when we lose God Himself, we lose everything.

Now if I could just get folks to put the “AD” before the year number, where it belongs. Today is “December 15, AD 2013,” not “2013 AD.”

Merry Christmas! My radio program this Friday will, unapologetically, feature all Christmas carols.

I would settle for them to stop using "CE" instead, no matter where they put it.

You certainly are brave, I’d like to see you in front of a mosque and spit on the koran or better yet pour a glass of urine on it. The koran of course would have to be your own property...let us know what hospibal you end up in...

That would not be bravery, that would be stupidity, because Muslims are rabidly stupid and wild. Muhammad was a paedophile false-prophet, however, as fake as the rest of them.

So you are brave only under certain circumstances...got it..:O) you might get hurt doing so under other situations..(no insult intended only making an observation based on what you wrote)

If people say A.D. they are then referring to Jesus. I don’t know of too many lay people who do that. Besides, here in 2013, it’s nothing BUT the years of our Lord, so why be redundant?
