The bottom line is, you suggested that Pollard was just a spy for an ally (which, technically speaking, isn't true) and should have gotten no more than a slap on the wrist for his actions.

Are you saying that Israel was not, with us, a common opponent of the USSR? Or that Israel was more unethical than Saudi Arabia or South Korea?

I pointed out, as have others, that the information he provided was going straight to the Soviet Union in exchange for immigrants, almost certainly with Pollard's full knowledge. Complaining that Pollard was a victim of anti-Semitism in view of these facts (and the fact that he was rightly put away under the watch of the Reagan administration, which was mostly sympathetic towards Israel) sounds awfully similar to rapists and murderers serving life sentences or on death row who claim to be victims of "racism." Those who want to make a hero and martyr of Pollard do little service to their cause.

He was put away, in violation of their agreement, by the extremely anti-Israel Cap Weinberger, a Rockefeller liberal who never should have been in the Reagan cabinet.

Is every accusation of anti-Semitism now tainted for you because leftists used to use it? How about by Haman? Would you agree that he was a legitimate anti-Semite? Or perhaps you don't believe he ever existed?

Oh, please -- not the old "comparative badness" game.

"If he's less bad than Beelzebub, then he doesn't deserve jail time." Oh, gag me.

Why don't you bring in Bluebeard and John Gacy? They can make Pollard look even better.</s>
