He was Yellowbird 72 of the 8th Tactical Bomb Sq flying out of Phan Rang. Outbound I was the first person that spoke with them after departure control. I would keep them feet wet until north of Nha Trang and then vector them toward Pleiku where I would do a radar handoff to Peacock Control. As the night went on we knew when each single bird was due back and would know when they became overdue. I can only say with a tear, “Welcome home it’s been a long time”. At the squadron bar the small stuffed pussy cat with a diamond necklace would remain with her back to the bar for the entire night until the following night and everyone recovered safely.
