The Los Angeles City Council on Tuesday agreed to pay nearly $6 million to a group of police officers who accused their superiors of imposing a secret traffic ticket quota system on the Westside.
The settlement, approved unanimously, brings to more than $10 million the amount of taxpayer money spent on payouts and legal fees from the ticket quota cases. But that number could grow because one more officer's case is still pending.
The ticket controversy has been a black eye for the Los Angeles Police Department. Ticket quotas are against state law. After the officers allegations were made public, LAPD officials met with police union representatives and signed a letter emphasizing that the department prohibits quotas.
Dennis Zine, a former City Council member and career LAPD motorcycle officer, said the settlement calls into question LAPDs traffic division management. Zine is also incensed that Capt. Nancy Lauer, who ran the LAPDs West Traffic Division at the time of the allegations, has been promoted.

Democrat trial lawyers will get half of that.
The LAPD have to collect traffic ticket money from West LA because the illegals in East LA are given a free pass.
Wait wait wait.... So they issued illegal tickets to people, and they are getting paid 6 million for it? WTF?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Its good work if you can get it.
You even get to shoot dogs.
1) They didn't want to leave the doughnut shop.
2) They wanted the fine payable directly to the cop.
3) They were afraid they would stop Chris Dorhner by mistake.
4) They support jackpot justice when it's for themselves
5) They didn't want to give bogus tickets to innocent citizens.
I choose #5. I hope there are a few honest ones left.
“Ticket quotas are against state law.”
And I’m sure all the commanders are now serving time in state prison .... getting reacquainted with Bubba.
Taxpayers will pay, not the city council or police department.
This is wrong on several levels...
90% of cops don’t like to give tickets. Now they’ll do almost nothing( more time for donuts). A so-called “quota” was only a “standard of performance”, just like in any occupation
I always thought traffic cops should be separate from normal police
