Mandela Ceremony Sign Language Interpreter ‘A Fake’

A man who provided sign language interpretation on stage for Nelson Mandela’s memorial service, attended by scores of heads of state, was a “fake,” the national director of the Deaf Federation of South Africa said on Tuesday.

The unidentified man seen around the world on television next to leaders like U.S. President Barack Obama “was moving his hands around but there was no meaning in what he used his hands for,” Bruno Druchen, the federation’s national director, told The Associated Press.

It's extremely insensitive, clueless of her not to realize she chose her words very poorly.

But then again she's not on to speak that much to begin with being in her line of work. (Crass).

It reminds me of what I once heard about consoling friends, family of a suicide victim by hanging. The advice was, never, ever snd I do mean never, tell them, oh, if he only he could have hung on a little longer. Boo, Hiss.

He must be using the "whole word" approach applied to sign language. It's not his fault we don't understand him. We just haven't been educated enough yet. Back to the training camps for us. (sarc)
