Just one small example.

We’ve given the DOE some $20 billion for nuclear waste disposal over the last few decades and they haven’t moved an ounce.

Lawmakers and bureaucrats should abandon dreams of centrally planning the energy sector.

Not only does it not work in a practical sense, there is no authorization in Article 1, Section 8 for congress to make laws concerning energy. One more area where the federal government needs stuffed back in it's Constitutional box.

Subsidies are the squandering of other peoples capital to finance someone’s fantasy. If “green” energy made economic sense it would not need subsidies.

Just about the entire federal budget is an unconstitutional monetary black hole.

What I think should happen with the DOE should be happening everywhere in teh budget.

When a new law is enacted like that which created the DOE, there should be a clear, unequivoal intent of the purposes for the creation of an agency like this.

In the case of DOE, it should be providing strategic support to industry efforts for commercial diversication of energy production and safety of supply, or something to that effect.

What the DOE has become is an environmental grab-bag that has nothing to do with the mission of DOE.

I’d say each year’s appropriation to a dept should restate the reason that dept exists as a reminder.
