You must be thinking of the universal sign language I use when he comes on the TV. I do the single finger salute, no matter where I am at, even in places like the airport or doc's office.
SNL is definitely not what it use to be...
But then again, has our familiarity with humor and current events back then been supplanted with what is the norm now???
Geesh, I’d like to think we (my generation) still have (has) a sense of humor, and know whats funny these days, just like the latest generation(s) has now...
What isn’t funny to me is unoriginality.
Our culture has stagnated since the watershed of the 60s/70s. No, I’m not just saying this because of my age (45). The social rebellion of the 60s/70s brought with it a new approach to comedy. But what is the current crop of comedians doing that is different, i.e. different in the sense that Lenny Bruce or George Carlin were different from Bob Hope?
What was new then is simply repackaged as “new” now. It’s the same mode of humor - essentially the same joke retold with a different cast of characters, reconstituted foils and straight men.
OK, maybe here’s something new: I frequently see talk show hosts just lazily read from a computer screen what some wit wrote on Twitter. If I wanted to see that, I would simply go to Twitchy or Twitter on my own. I guess the writers ran out of ideas. At least they are honest about being bereft of ideas.
IMO the cultural stagnation is a symptom of a more systemic decline in Western culture. Rome didn’t collapse in a day, but the whole of Roman society got stupider as time went on. No, we won’t recapitulate the Roman collapse, but we’ll do our best to rhyme with it...
Show me the subversion of subversiveness, the subversion of irony, post-post-modernism- that would be something new.

Turns out that your illucidation about Mungo Baobab as he related to the fake sign language exponenet was true.
The fraudulent sign language interpreter is known by the name Thamsanqa Jantjie. He say hosts of angels and other devine beings in the soccer stadium as he did his fake job, standing near world leadersd as they paid their last respects to Nelson Mandela.
Whether Jantjie is from the planet Mungo Baobab or not is still an open question. I am sure he would be very good in the coming Koong War here on earth, working for the Obama World Alliance.

A lot of very s t r a n g e people live in South Africa. You mix the ancient superstitions with islam and if the least you get is mass hallucinations, you’re not doing so bad. It’s the disembowling of the white farmers and the baby-rapes as a cure for AIDS that bother me.

There is no genuine freedom yet in South Africa. Only a creeping evolution toward totalitarian rule, an evolution which they have in common with the United States of America.
Almost made me weep...until I remembered how many mosques there are in South Africa. Ultimately they will have driven out or slaughtered the white man and those blacks who don’t vote for them, only to become slaves of islam.
