MARK LEVIN TO PAUL RYAN: BUDGET DEAL IS 'MICKEY MOUSE'
Breitbart Big Government ^ | December 10, 2013 | by JOEL B. POLLAK

Posted on 12/10/2013 8:41:58 PM PST by Hojczyk

Talk show host Mark Levin told House Budget Committee Chair Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) that the budget deal announced today with Sen. Patti Murray (D-WA) was a "Mickey Mouse" deal, tinkering at the margins of the federal budget, undoing the sequester and exchanging immediate spending increases for future spending cuts.

Ryan countered that "elections have consequences," and that many members of the Republican caucus were worried that the next tranche of sequester cuts would hit the military exclusively. He explained that there would be a net savings of $23 billion after $62 billion in new spending was offset by $85 billion in long-term cuts.

He added that the $85 billion would be a change in mandatory spending, as opposed to discretionary spending, noting that many of the savings would come from federal employees contributing more towards their pensions. Levin countered that even changes in "mandatory" spending could be undone easily by a future Congress.

The Budget Control Act that put the sequester in place, Levin argued, had also been touted as a "permanent" deal. Ryan disagreed, while agreeing that the new deal would not solve the government's overall fiscal problems. It would be impossible to do more, he said, while Obama was president: "Elections have consequences."

Ryan GOP did not have the stomach to endure another government shutdown, and would prefer to focus on Obamacare instead. Levin responded that it was possible to focus on both spending and Obamacare, and that "nothing" was being done about Obamacare anyway.

Levin noted that the Democrats' main goal had been to undo the sequester--the Republicans' main point of leverage in budget talks--and that the deal increased overall spending in the short term. Ryan explained that parts of the sequester would remain, and pointed out that Democrats had dropped a demand for higher taxes.

Yet another talking point of surrender. If elections had consequences then 1994 and 2010 were useless. Didn’t those elections have consequences?

Didn’t Reagan in 1980 and 1984 have them? Or even G.W. Bush in 2004? Not to the left. They attacked, attacked, attacked and attacked.

The wimps of the GOPe just sat around and took it because, let’s be frank (or Barney Franks), they like taking it in the rear.

And this moron Ryan is talking about “saving” 0.02125% of a yearly budget? And “long term” at that?

It’s an insult to call it Mickey Mouse or Bozo. The best description is far left liberal appeasment.

I agree except for a “balanced budget”. That's usually used to pass spending bills first and then raise taxes because “we have to balance the budget.”

The left, including RINO’s, here in TN have been peddling that for years. Don “The Tax Terrorist” Sundquist (RINO) governor tried that line to unconstitutionally implement a state income tax.

When we rose up and complained that their spending was the problem the called it the “Armageddon Budget” that would wreck havoc on our state. And again, this was a so-called Republican. Then he shut down parks, rest stops, etc. just to tick folks off.

When we rallied around the capital and protested they faked an “attack” from a rock threw a window and called out the brownshirts (not a reference, our state troopers wear them) with GUNS to stand and face us during their last attempt to vote the tax in. They lost.

If I ever became governor of TN I'd make sure every single one of those troopers that followed that order be prosecuted for being a-holes, throw them in prison and ruing their lives.

The statist won't stop. /rant

Just...WOW! What a gutless bunch the GOPe leadership is. I truly believe that the TEA Party should have severed ties at least 2 years ago and gone it alone. We now have Quisling and the Vichy gov. leading the Republican party.

He reminds me of why I regret voting for the lessor of two evils. He also makes me more resolute not to do it again.

Ryan was an advocate for increasing taxes on taxpayers by removing deductions on those who pay income taxes.
I’m not surprised he’s mush and caves to accommadate leftists.

““Ryan countered that “elections have consequences,”

This is the new meme being bandied about in the Republican establishment.”

I thought that was the dems’ mantra!

And anyways wasn’t the republican house elected? And why did they feel the need to do anything about the sequester? They could have sat on their hands and we’d be way ahead.

“Ryan explained that parts of the sequester would remain, and pointed out that Democrats had dropped a demand for higher taxes.”

They didn’t drop demands for new taxes - in fact they got them. They just called them “fees”.

How stupid do they think we are? (Don’t answer that).

The GOP isn’t going to cut dime one. Vote them all out. Time for a true second party.

It’s an old story:

The Democrats propose to tear down the Washington Monument, and the Republicans respond with a plan to do it in three stages.

“wait until after we get elected, then we’ll fix it”

They'll "have more flexibility" then.

Wanted to add this new tagline.

This thread seemed like the appropriate place to do it...
