Talk show host Mark Levin told House Budget Committee Chair Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) that the budget deal announced today with Sen. Patti Murray (D-WA) was a "Mickey Mouse" deal, tinkering at the margins of the federal budget, undoing the sequester and exchanging immediate spending increases for future spending cuts.
Ryan countered that "elections have consequences," and that many members of the Republican caucus were worried that the next tranche of sequester cuts would hit the military exclusively. He explained that there would be a net savings of $23 billion after $62 billion in new spending was offset by $85 billion in long-term cuts.
He added that the $85 billion would be a change in mandatory spending, as opposed to discretionary spending, noting that many of the savings would come from federal employees contributing more towards their pensions. Levin countered that even changes in "mandatory" spending could be undone easily by a future Congress.
The Budget Control Act that put the sequester in place, Levin argued, had also been touted as a "permanent" deal. Ryan disagreed, while agreeing that the new deal would not solve the government's overall fiscal problems. It would be impossible to do more, he said, while Obama was president: "Elections have consequences."
Ryan GOP did not have the stomach to endure another government shutdown, and would prefer to focus on Obamacare instead. Levin responded that it was possible to focus on both spending and Obamacare, and that "nothing" was being done about Obamacare anyway.
Levin noted that the Democrats' main goal had been to undo the sequester--the Republicans' main point of leverage in budget talks--and that the deal increased overall spending in the short term. Ryan explained that parts of the sequester would remain, and pointed out that Democrats had dropped a demand for higher taxes.

Mark is right again. Ryan sounded foolish and finally seemed to realize how foolish he sounded.
This is the Republican “leadership” we have? Sounded like a kid caught defending a mistake.
Disgusting. Glad he didn’t become vice pres.
I read that Ryan works out.
It shows too, as both of his arms are not in slings due to excessive patting himself on the back.
Maybe he rubs his arms with RINO poo?
The GOP establishment is utterly useless.
They have NO message or policy whatsoever. All they do is react.
...so they’re going to take more of our money and freedom?
Sounds like another day in Washington......
It was a jaw dropper.

Tax on air travelers? “Not popular!”
Reading this I get the impression the only thing Ryan negotiated was a way to word the capitulation to give the Republicans bogus talking points. No new taxes, yeah but they are increasing fees. Spending cuts, maybe down the road if we get both houses and a Republican president. And on, and on.
OK Read all the responses to this post. So what can we do? It is obvious that most all republicans have no backbone and are feckless. They become part of the ruling class once they get to D.C. and everything changes; they suddenly dont see the world as it is. Where now? I get at least 10 e-mails a day from every conservative group in existence. All they want is money. Sorry guys, no more. If you want another penny, here is what you have to do. 1. Freeze federal spending. No more hiring.
2. Abolish the education dept, the EPA, the energy dept., and that is just the start.
3.Reduce federal spending a minimum of ten percent a year until the budget is balanced.
4. Term limits: 2 terms for congressman, one for senators.
5. Repeal the seventeenth amendment.
6. Every budget must be balanced.
7. Put Reid out of office, put Holder on trial for treason.
8. Who is the crazy one here? Nothing will happen, nothing will change. All continues as we go off the cliff into oblivion.
9. Oh yes, then there is the Federal reserve. I wont go there as that is a hornets nest purposely designed to be one. We are doomed. Woe is us
Levin was entirely too polite to this hack... afterwards candy coating it, saying “he’s a good man”. It’s disappointing given how fired up TGO can get ane then he becomes a puppy dog... I would have BLOWN UP ane told him “get off my phone and call back when you think you can prove to your constituents that you will not back down on budget cuts now, entitlement benefit and tax reforms, rescinding of the [un]Affordable Care Act, and continuing budget cuts in the future as well as a balanced budget that includes paying down the national debt, you charlatan!”
Similarly when he had Indiana State Senator David Long on about the big Article V powpow at Mount Vernon... I would have ERUPTED at the suggestion that each state legislature be required to send one Democrat andone Republican... send 2 people that believe the republic is going do2n the crapper because the constitution is being trashed and the whole federal system is compromised.
too bad the House is the most powerful branch of the fed gov’t (as conceived by the founders) when the dems hold it, but somehow morphs into the most weak branch when the ryan and GOPe gets a hold of it.
just amazing.
“exchanging immediate spending increases for future spending cuts”
As ALWAYS.
Daily readings:
$85 Billion in “long term cuts” on a yearly budget of $4 trillion?
The GOPe are as insane as the left.
