Just when one thought the news surrounding the damage being caused by ObamaCare cant get worse, the Scranton Times-Tribune reports that ObamaCare may well end many volunteer fire departments:
A local congressman wants answers on whether volunteer firefighting companies could be unintentionally swept into the national health care reform law championed by President Barack Obama.
The International Association of Fire Chiefs has asked the Internal Revenue Service, which has partial oversight of the law, to clarify if current IRS treatment of volunteer firefighters as employees means their hose companies or towns must offer health insurance coverage or pay a penalty if they dont.
The organization representing the fire chiefs has been working on the issue with the IRS and White House for months.
Something tells me that the fact that most volunteer fire departments are not unionized, while most professional fire departments are unionized, will have a greater effect on the final rule than local finances or public safety.
Don’t volunteer firefighters have full time jobs?
No one can slip the noose, but for the obama faithful.
Can’t have Volunteer firemen. They all need to be full time civil service UNION positions.....
Some do. Some don’t. In this economy some can’t find jobs. They’re still volunteering.
Volunteer firemen are incredible people. Willing to risk their lives, to get up at 2 AM to save someone way across town. Someone that they don't even know. All for no pay. Incredible people.
You didn't hear? Full time jobs are almost a thing of the past in today's private sector America.
Yes, every single one of the 109,453 volunteer firefighters in the U.S. is the full-time employee of a company - absolutely NONE of them are self-employed. NONE of them are retired. NONE of them have multiple part-time jobs (providing, of course, no insurance coverage). And finally, NONE of them are jobless.
Your question implied that you were expecting an answer like that.
The point is: One shoe doesn't fit all - but ObamaCare regulations have to be "fair," so they aren't allowed to differentiate ("discriminate") between different situations.
Regards,
Nope. I was just curious. My brother-in-law was a volunteer firefighter and got no health insurance from the township where he volunteered. His "day job" was throwing papers from which he also got no health insurance. Unluckily for him he got colon cancer and had no insurance and he died. All of his co-volunteers worked full-time and had health insurance.
Yup, and that POS Juan Williams was DEFENDING this tonight on Hannity. /SPIT
I thought you had to have 50 people employed before the Obamacare requirement kicked in???
