President Obama took a selfie with British Prime Minister David Cameron and Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt while seated in the audience at Nelson Mandela’s memorial service in South Africa on Tuesday.

I had little use for John McCain, but back in the 2008 election, his campaign ran an absolutely brilliant (and accurate) ad comparing Barack Obama to "famous for being famous" celebrities like Paris Hilton.

As with other pop culture phenomena, Obama's reputation is the product of a society that prizes empty, image-oriented narcissists above those who actually accomplish something. So it's no wonder he's taking "selfies" and publicizing them. How's his Twitter account doing?
