There is no position in the human resources department of any company that could not be performed by another, and would almost certainly be better performed by another.

Send hiring, discipline and firing back to the direct managers. Finance can manage benefits administration. Legal can do the rest of the regulatory compliance.

The politically correct sensitivity training pap can be dumped without affecting a company’s performance one iota at worst—and improving it substantially at best by removing a source of workplace tension and hostility.

1,000,000% right!!!

I’ve long held the belief that HR “jobs” are just a built-in social/AA program that companies have in place to employ women and gays. They provide ZERO value to any company; the positions are “piecework”, except they do wield considerable power, which is unfortunate for the real employees. And yes, HR is the major source of workplace tension and hostility.

The best people I worked for were the ones that recognized that HR was a roadblock and worked around them; the ones that relied on HR were garbage. That to me, is a HUGE indicator of the person. The people that I worked for that had to run to HR to find out what day of the week is was were unqualified, weak and worthless.
