Problem is when the ice melts, it's dangerous (and illegal) to drive on concrete/macadam with the studded tires - no traction to stop, so it's just like driving on ice wo/ those tires - so they're hard-to-find anymore. They were popular back in the 60s & 70s.
Vehicles in Greenland and the Arctic leave them on one vehicle year-round, usually.
