Judge Orders Colorado Bakery to Cater for Same-Sex Weddings

A Colorado baker who refused to make a cake for a gay couple has been given an ultimatum by a judge; serve gay weddings or face fines.

Administrative law judge Robert N. Spence found Friday that Jack Phillips of Masterpiece Cakeshop in Denver, Colo. violated the law when he turned away David Mullins, 29, and Charlie Craig, 33, from his shop last year.

In his written decision, Spence ordered that Phillips "cease and desist from discriminating" against gay couples, or face financial penalties, and cited Colorado state law that prohibits businesses from refusing service based on race, sex, marital status or sexual orientation.

When the judicial system gets involved in a private business's ability to decline to service anyone for any reason short of race or creed as that has been enshrined in out constitution

Where does the Constitution grant Congress the authority to prohibit refusal of service based on race or creed?

One can infer that from the bill of rights.. Also to a degree from the civil rights legislation..Federally..However States are free to step in where the federal government does not. They have.

What gives the State and Local governments the power to punish violators of stupid social ideas, are their regulatory powers...These issues are civil, and not criminal..unless they bring a case under their newly minted hate crimes legislation, also not constitutional but accepted without much argument.

To sum up, this is a Colorado issue. The Bill of rights only declares equal rights to the pursuit of life. The State then can expound on that without federal assistance, however they got it anyway...so now with their regulatory responsibilities and power, a State can do what it deems necessary. If it wants to do what Colorado is doing. I would have said this to be unlikely, only a few years ago as it conflicts with religious freedoms, but this cake shop is not a place of worship and the State, especially Denver Colorado, just loves to stick it up a Christian's sensibilities just for fun. And that leadership is coming from the top and from the department of justice with the present regime.

So it follows that the State of Colorado is not the least bit worried about a legal case. No matter what grounds they bring it on. Not anymore they aren’t. No, there is no specific constitutional right to demand a vendor serve you, nor is there any constitutional right that the vendor has to deny service. But there is a inference that everybody get the same respect...So the state is simply exercising it's rights to use it's own regulatory powers and the feds, nor the judiciary will prevent them in this case from doing it. It's a fruitless case to fight any further then they have already.IMO

I used to think we all despised the real flamers.

Now—I know better.

That might not show if you called it a fruit cake.

AYDS (pronounced the same as AIDS) went on the market in the 1930s. They turned out to just be caramel candy.

Folklore attributes their demise entirely to AIDS, but they were snake oil, and consumers were becoming more educated about such things. When AIDS became widely talked about, people may have talked more about AYDS, but nobody thought there was a connection.

I knew a few people who were on the AYDS Diet, at various times. I never knew of anyone who actually lost weight on it.

It contained something that was supposed to suppress the appetite, but I never saw any evidence of that.

There were very few diet aids available back then. In the 1970s and ‘80s the competition soared. Caramel candies couldn’t compete, and they went belly up. AIDS was a convenient scapegoat, but let’s face it, if caramel candy helped people lose weight, you could call it Sandra Bernhard and middle aged housewives would still eat it.

Really? If God disagreed with you, you would tell Him He is wrong, and then brush Him off without further consideration? Really?! I have news for you. You’re really not that special.

But I would want it to show. And I’d want them to pay extra for it too.

Hey dude, if they’re fighting Christianity why not give Christianity a fighting chance to fight back.

God needs worldliness to go out there gunning to help Him, like Mohammed Ali needed Pee Wee Herman as a bodyguard. The sentiment is appreciated. The reality needs to be heeded.

I never implied (you erroneously used the term “inferred”) you are a Democrat.

You set up a strawman argument again.

I will be able to run rings around you all day if I wanted. But I have other things to do right now.

We God kooks will never agree with you... and frankly we don’t need your worldly attempts to help God. Go defend some secular cause. This is war between the devil and God. You’re going to get caught in the cross fire. I promise you.

I'm not giving or taking anything from anyone..

Just trying to explain to you that I think you are wasting your time, especially on the Colorado matter.

Then you wonder why people try to marginalize Christianity by proffering evidence that it's adherents are far too judgmental and dogma blind to even engage in a rational conversation.

I wonder how that conclusion was reached...lol

But knock yourself out...I was actually trying to be helpful..maybe give you some outside perspective.

Nevermind...just another total waste of time..been there done that already.

Ah, Heat means well. But he’s ginning up all kinds of worldly schemes in what is quintessentially a spiritual battle.

If he proves useful in this conflict it will be because he managed to more or less distantly echo something that God wanted.

Deists think they are so smart sometimes. Well they’re not. There are some things God won’t tolerate.

Well I will gladly take the risk which comes with asserting positive things about God.

What is “dogma blind” about saying God came to save the world from sin? Only in the eyes of a persistent sinner would this be “dogma blind.” And those people are less than nothing in God’s scales anyhow.

Buddy... a God that can’t judge what’s wrong can’t ever fix it either.

That’s the biz, “sweetheart.” I’m fighting battles at a plane you can’t even bring yourself to imagine. Christians have yielded too MUCH to realpolitik... not too LITTLE.

“We God kooks will never agree with you”

So now I’m calling you God kooks? Oh yeah!

Well that’s just peachy...

You stay on your side of the street, and I’ll stay on mine..

Since you think God is too stupid to understand your superior intellect, I’m not terribly upset that you think I’m not smart enough to understand what you’ve written here.

You can’t outsmart God.
