A Southern California truck driver who called police fearing hijackers unwittingly led officers to a 12-ton haul of pot in his own trailer.
Tustin police tell City News Service that the driver didn't know an estimated $7 million worth of marijuana was hidden in the cargo of electronics he was taking from San Diego into Orange County.

Somebody is going to have a “blue Chirstmas” or Kwanzaa or Festivus or whatever.
The Airing of Grievances should be something to behold.
It's just another case of one drug smuggling organization ripping off a competitor organization, and proves once again that one of the biggest drawbacks in entering into a life of crime is that your business associates are very untrustworthy.
It would make a great Major Crimes story.
It's all supply and demand. If Americans decided to not smoke pot, take speed or shoot heroin (or whatever) THEN the market would dry up and wither away.
Until then, the folks who feel the need or desire to put stuff in their body to change their brain's perception of reality will do so and KNOW that the chemicals to effect said change are ALWAYS available.
Drug dealers COULD sell shoes.
It's my wish that they would end up in the pokey for a L------O------N--------G time. It wouldn't change those individuals but might change the mind of other drug dealers who feel that they will never, ever get caught.
Selling shoes has no risk (other than passing out from human foot odor) but it's legal and one can look at oneself in the mirror, straight in the eye, and say: "It was a good day."
The day WILL come when they will have to look their Creator in the eye and account for their behavior.
It might shock you, but that goes for the so-called legitimate business world too.
Seems reasonable. Drug traders often ship small packages to addresses they know are unoccupied during the day, intending to steal the package off the porch if there are no cops watching the house. Causes great problems for the unknowing resident.
This could be a similar scheme to move 12 tons by hijacking the truck.
This reminded me of the Fed-Ex story, where warehouse workers were shipping pot to an address, to be picked by the driver on that end. An innocent local mayor was arrested and his dog shot by the swat team, then the plot came to light. I am thinking in this one, the guys who loaded the trailer knew about the “extra shipment” and had someone on the other end waiting, or the highjackers knew and were supposed to grab the truck enroute. Either way, somebody’s gonna lose some skin over it.
The drug shippers/buyers get money three ways. The insurance claim for the “stolen” electronics, that they will sell on the black market, and the drugs delivered to the buyers with no trace.
They get full declared value from insurance.
They get a load of electronics to sell.
And a load of drugs to sell.
WIN WIN WIN for them…. Except this time.
Many years ago someone shipped drugs to Patty Hearst at her home, while she was on parole. She hadn't ordered anything, and was suspicious of the package, thinking it was a bomb targeting her, so she didn't take it inside, instead she called the police.
Much to the dismay of the cops watching her house at the time.

OF COURSE it is! Illegal drugs end up COSTING us the taxpayers way too much money. I DON'T want to support junkies who spend their lives getting high, crashing, getting sick-better, with VERY EXPENSIVE rehab and therapy...and then do it all over again with the same STUPID cycle again and again and again.

Heroin, meth and such are addictive, which means people get SICK when they don't get their widdle fixie-poo. They need extremely expensive, time-consuming therapy that usually doesn't work because drug addicts are MORONS. AND, the kicker is: they DON'T WANT to get better for good, just enough so that they can get high again, not just "un-sick."
When alcoholics stop drinking they DON'T get sick, they just get better. It's like quitting tobacco...coughs stop. Lung cancer may come anyway but at least life and quality of life can/may be extended.
People can be so STUPID. I am tired of paying for STUPID adults who haven't got a SHRED of backbone. It's not MY fault that their lives are so screwed up. Our society offers help again and again and again and again. WHEN do those MORONS start taking responsibility for themselves and start taking the consequences of their stupidity BY THEMSELVES?
I'm willing to be my brother's keeper, but "brother" has to give reality a try! If they refuse to try to get better, maybe they'll do better with rehab in the pokey.

I don’t like dirtbags, either. But not all people who enjoy a smoke now and then are dirtbags. It’s a question of self-responsibility, and we probably would agree that a significant percentage of people are lacking in that regard. Where we disagree is on whether every one else should be restricted because of that. It’s which side you take of the “one bad apple spoils the barrel” problem.
"Enjoying a smoke now and then...." is still illegal when the "smoke" is dope. It sure is a matter of self responsibility when people buy illegal drugs for a "once in a while" smoke or whatever.
There was a huge push to legalize pot, but it never happened, MOSTLY because every doctor worth his salt declared unequivocally that pot is a "gateway" drug. You know what that means. Addicts start somewhere and pot is the perfect gateway...mind is mildly blown, giggles are endured and drug friends/dealers are established. There really is no half way to it.
Either it's legal or it's not; there is no such thing as "quasi-legal" or "sort of legal." Also I don't understand your analogy: It’s which side you take of the “one bad apple spoils the barrel” problem.
By the way, one bad, rotten apple DOES spoil the entire barrel, albeit slowly. Fruit rots. People's brains and bodies rot with drugs. Every doctor will tell you that too.
As for restricting "everyone else," that's moot since not "everybody" takes illegal drugs...or WANTS to.
