OK. This is very simple.
1. Conceal carry
2. If you see a group of unsavory, suspicious characters walking towards you, put some distance between you and them. Keep an eye on them the whole time, but don’t do anything provocative. Some would say, just looking at them is provocative. Well, that’s a risk I am willing to take.
3. Who is unsavory and suspicious? Please, don’t be dense.
If you see a group of smiling people in their Sunday’s best, checking their iphones, and blabbing about how great “Les Miserables” was, that is probably not them.
Cross to the other side of the street. If they follow you, then you have probable cause to suspect that a crime is about to take place. Keep your weapon concealed until they are nearly upon you. Then show it and tell them they are under arrest. Watch how they flee. If they don’t, then you may have to shoot the leader.
You might even have to run away from them in the first place since many state laws require you to give ground/retreat if someone is not yet a clear and present danger to you. Need to check state and local laws on “stand your ground”, the need to “retreat”, etc.
There is NO GOOD DECISION in these situations but your own survival is paramount. Be prepared but don’t challenge. Let them be the aggressors. Then you will have legal justification for taking action to protect your life.
If attacked, kill the bastards.
Don't ever allow yourself to be flanked and /or surrounded. That is a deadly threat.
Do not be afraid to be impolite. Ignore their words. Pretend that you're deaf.
Cross the street or enter an establishment if you can.
A very bright blinding flashlight is a must have in conjunction with your weapon.
Always have your situational awareness meter pegged.
