North Korean propaganda has it that, since its completion in October, people have been keen to visit Munsu Water Park on the banks of the Taedong River. However, in truth many are reluctant to pass through the facility, knowing that orders to visit the place come at the expense of time that could be better spent working for private gain.
A Pyongyang source told Daily NK on the 3rd, Since November we've been getting these coupons to visit Munsu Water Park via our Peoples Units, along with orders for each person to visit at least once. But ordinary people, who have to work hard just to make money, dont have any interest in that; they just pass the coupons on to middlemen instead.
The authorities are ordering us to go there whilst pronouncing it as the very essence of Kim Jong Euns care and consideration [for the people], the source noted. But do they really think people who have to live off trade would want to up stumps to go and have fun like that?
The very moment that the news started circulating that they'd started building [the water park], people immediately thought it would be something for the cadres and donju [the ascendant middle class], the source went on, adding that traders who bought up the unwanted coupons have been caught off guard by the lack of interest.
The source did say, however, that some people who cannot receive coupons to visit the waterpark are prepared to pay money to use the facility. The state price for entry is set at 450 won, but it actually costs around 2000 won to enter and 5000 won to use the facilities, buying access not only to the outdoor pool but also an indoor pool and sauna, too.
It takes about 7000 won in total to go there, the source conveyed. And there are few people who would pay the price of a kilo of rice to go and play for the day.
“Forcing people to spend money they cant afford on things they dont want. Water Park Mandate?”
It’s a TAX! And it’s the Law Of The Land.
Not sure about when and where this took place, but it's 42 degrees Fahrenheit right now in Pyongyang.
I hate tyrants.
I love the water slide.
It looks like you could end up at the same place after jumping off.
Maybe that’s the point that dear leader is trying to convey for anyone trying to leave dear country — try it and you will be back where you started..
I guess amusement parks aren’t a very high priority when you have to get up early in the morning to beat your neighbor to the most “edible” tree bark.
lol
It’s a very long line
“Comrades, you will spend a months wages on frivolity, with limits of course. Anyone caught smiling receives 2 lashes.”
Yep.....if you look at the pics rawhide linked, that soldier looks like he’s pretty stringent when it comes to unnecessary smiling.
They are forced to go and they are graded by the guys with the clipboards. Amazing.
How many leftists in this country want to hold those clipboards?
yep
Oh, if they were able to do it, they’d be marching us into internment camps tomorrow....no hesitation.
I have no doubt of that.
Can’t you just see Obama doing something like this?
what forcing people to buy a product whether they need it or not?
nah!
/sarc
Thank you and have a nice day.
That is probably 100% true too.
Shyeah! You’re right! Whatever was I thinking?
It takes about 7000 won in total to go there, and there are few people who would pay the price of a kilo of rice to go and play for the day.
That’s about $54.
$54 for about 2 days’ calories worth of rice.
Oh, if they were able to do it, theyd be marching us into “health” camps tomorrow....no hesitation.
Really, it’s for your own good...
You have to get to the camps to find out what’s IN the camps!
